COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Former Vice President Joe Biden charged Saturday that Jim Crow is “sneaking back in” as he emphasized voting rights at his first presidential campaign stop in South Carolina, where black voters play a key role in the South’s first presidential primary.
In criticizing Republican efforts to adopt more stringent voting rules, including identification requirements and curtailing early voting hours, Biden recalled the racial segregation laws of the past.
“You’ve got Jim Crow sneaking back in,” he said, referring to the era before the civil rights movement. “You know what happens when you have an equal right to vote? They lose.”

wow. That's some pretty strong language. I thought Biden was running on the platform that we're all American's. Let's take a look at what he might be talking about.
A literacy test measures a person’s proficiency in reading and writing. Beginning in the 19th century, literacy tests were used in the voter registration process in southern states of the U.S. with the intent to disenfranchise black voters. In 1917, with the passing of the Immigration Act, literacy tests were also included in the U.S. immigration process, and are still used today. Historically, literacy tests have served to legitimize racial and ethnic marginalization in the U.S.

Ok...now let's fast forward to our most recent elections.

In her ruling, Ross said the requirements raised "grave concerns for the Court about the differential treatment inflicted on a group of individuals who are predominantly minorities. ... The election scheme here places a severe burden on these individuals."

Ross ruled that Georgia must immediately start allowing poll managers to clear voters who show proof of citizenship. Ross also ordered Kemp to issue a news release explaining how flagged potential voters could vote by proving their citizenship, and offer a phone number for people to call with any questions.

So, it would appear that the Republican's are engaged in trying to prevent minorities from voting. But, is it fair to compare it to "Jim Crow"? That was an era of state sanctioned efforts to legalize racial segregation marked by violence and death. Here's more food for thought.

The Trump Effect On The GOP Future - America's Voice
President-elect Donald Trump’s xenophobic rhetoric didn’t just push his fellow candidates to the right on immigration (in what has become known as the “Trump Effect”). It’s gone beyond the political world and injected itself into everyday life — and, in many instances across dozens of states, in a very violent ways.

This map shows documented instances where President-elect Donald Trump, his supporters, or his staff have harassed or attacked Latinos, immigrants, Muslim-American, African-Americans, and other minority and marginalized groups.

Everything is racist to the Far Left and some of these Dems.
how could everything be racist? That doesn't even make any sense.... unless you're deliberately trying to evade discussing the topic honestly. What specifically are you denying is racist ( and who claimed it was)? Or are you just generally opposed to the term "racism" ?

politically it's actually pretty smart. He's establishing that his campaign isn't going to run away from the issues that might trip him up during the primary. If anyone is going to come after him about his past legacy on race , now would be the time. He's letting his opponents know he's ready for that fight. While also giving us all a glimpse at how he's going to take on Trump.

I agree. I see that as well.

When we get past that and on to platform we're all going to see how old Biden's values are, however. He already bit down on that with the comment about pot being a gateway drug.
I do not believe any Dem can ride the popularity train to a win. They can certainly use Trump to help but they will need substance to change minds or sway centrists.
