HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA

Even if he did, do you think local and state governments would confide?

Laws in america will always exist, no matter what little "georgie bush" says.

Would they oppose? there are provisions in terror bill that rid civil liberties and make torture and spying ok.. on Americans! I decided to look up Martial law on Wikipedia, the last line is interesting.

Martial law is the system of rules that takes effect when the military takes control of the normal administration of justice.
Usually martial law reduces some of the personal rights ordinarily granted to the citizen, limits the length of the trial processes, and prescribes more severe penalties than ordinary law. In many states martial law prescribes the death penalty for certain crimes, even if ordinary law does not contain that crime or punishment in its system.
Originally martial law was imposed during wars or occupations to let the government control population more effectively in spite of heightened unrest. Nowadays it is most commonly used by authoritarian governments to enforce their rule, for example after coup d'état (Thailand 2006), when threatened by popular protests (PRC 1989), or to crack down on the opposition (Poland 1981). Martial law can also be declared in cases of major natural disasters, however most countries use a different legal construct like "state of emergency".
In many countries martial law imposes particular rules, one of which is curfew. Often, under this system, the administration of justice is left to a military tribunal, called a court-martial. The suspension of the writ of habeas corpus is likely to occur.

Well.... habeus corpus is missing now. The problem is local government can easily be constrained if the mode of communication is taken away like... radio and the internet. Imagine it gone one day, then what? The media is already controlled as we know.

Image G.W. saying this:

"Good morning my fellow Americans, in times of great and tremendous struggle, there comes a time when a leader must take a firm stand against tyranny and the Terrorists, I've decided it is in every American's interest I extend my term in order to protect America's vital interests..."

I don't know but I can see him reading something like this or similar. The timing of the ridding of Habeus Corpus and our bill of rights seems a natural precursor for martial law. Also, the introduction of a private army (blackwater) is also something very recent. You expect local government to oppose a federal government (under whose authority?) He doesn't need each state's permission, and even if he did need a signature from every governor you think he wouldn't be able to get a majority?

Even though Bush is president, the people have all the power. You wouldn't want to have the bush administration/every single piece of american military vs the american people, would you?

The american people would kick it's ass. Let me just say, outline a better possible scenario, or I say it's impossible.

even though Bush is president, the people have all the power?

The power to vote in democrats to get us out of Iraq and send a message for a new course or just maybe the bill of rights back.. wait not that's not it.

The power to vote and not get disenfranchised if it helps one party win an election (like in florida)... no that's not it.

bush administration/every piece of american military vs. american people.
If only everything was so clear cut as that, I'm sure every american person would jump on the liberty bandwagon, especially the kind who say its ok to give up rights to feel safe.

The american people would kick it's ass. "it" being the governments, those pushovers just have the media, can rid the internet and radio, and play their spin until your numb from being numb.

impossible? you havn't seen the impossible happen yet?

We've lost the bill of rights? And since when was the Iraq war on american soil?

The government actually has very very little power when it comes to it's own country... hell... about 10% of robberies and murders get solved? They can't even enforce the border(even though we've done it with larger borders on like every continent on the planet since the 1940's)... can't deport people who shouldn't be here, can't properly reform the infrastructure of the growing budget deficit... has less than a 30% approval rating in both branches...

The only way a police state could ever take hold is in wake of an impending civil war - which I see the only possibilty being the influx of 100 million foreign nationals by 2020. And even with that... a war? Hell no... the people here are too mature and have too much money.

the people here are too mature and have too much money. translation: people are complacently controlled and cannot break the mold, if their life depended on it. Quick look over there, its another mexican! Or maybe they just ran out of stories to feed the media and so they played the Mexican card to keep real important issuse out of the light. We know it will probably get shot down.

Everything you say is conjecture and baseless, and is why you humanists cannot enter actual "capitalist" debates. Go talk to the commie's and tell them to "break the mold" while still sustaining "equality".

Now I'm a baseless communist, 11. Thou shalt not speak untruth against thy state. Darn catholic school for nothing!! I should take a note from you, you can fill me in which way my money flows in the stock market and how many kids in that Bangladesh sweat shop just got hired to boost your capital. ... I'm waiting...

Well based on your s/n only... I would imagine you're a french liberal?(though I got nothing against the culture - there's just alot of radical liberals)

"EnPassant"... The peasant? So you like being the unskilled ground guy, and feel that that is the fate of the majority of people? Thus you represent most people? (haha I'm assuming alot I know). If we all catered to the peasant, where would be the motivation to go beyond?

And to answer your silly questions.... I will not. All I care about is my little southern california communites and my general country - I wish the best for all born and raised here as well as a good chunk of legal immigrants - and I constantly find fault with the government's "unfair" policies towards everyone - hence the arguements and types of responses I have in this very forum.

Do you want to debate Capitalism vs Communism? Or how about Conservatism vs Socialism? Individuality vs Equality? Name your bate.
