SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California's economy has surpassed that of the United Kingdom to become the world's fifth largest, according to new federal data made public Friday.

California's gross domestic product rose by $127 billion from 2016 to 2017, surpassing $2.7 trillion, the data said. Meanwhile, the UK's economic output slightly shrunk over that time when measured in U.S. dollars, due in part to exchange rate fluctuations. The data demonstrate the sheer immensity of California's economy, home to nearly 40 million people, a thriving technology sector in Silicon Valley, the world's entertainment capital in Hollywood and the nation's salad bowl in the Central Valley agricultural heartland. It also reflects a substantial turnaround since the Great Recession.

All economic sectors except agriculture contributed to California's higher GDP, said Irena Asmundson, chief economist at the California Department of Finance. Financial services and real estate led the pack at $26 billion in growth, followed by the information sector, which includes many technology companies, at $20 billion. Manufacturing was up $10 billion.

Hard to say one way or the other on Cheetolini, but I know it's gonna for sure burn a few of our members here. We're supposed to have crashed and burned by now.

Fucking good thing for the rest of the country we haven't, since a lot of you depend on our taxes.

If California is doing so well why is the homeless problem out of control?
Where would you rather be homeless, California or South Dakota? Know what the homeless rate is in Minneapolis in January? How does zero sound? Is that because Minnesota is so much better than California, or could it be attributed to the 40 below zero temperatures that come by during the winter?

He'll still seethe and eventually blow.
Oh, he'll seethe and blow, but over other issues long before this one. Like if Robert Mueller starts poking his nose into Ivanka's business dealings. That would cause the Donald to blow his top. His son-in-law Jared Kushner is apparently 'expendable', according to Rudy Guiliani, but not his lovely daughter Ivanka.

Or, if the trade deficit continues to explode, despite his tariffs, and despite his constant yammering at all of our trading partners, the Donald could lose his cool over that, and let rip with an infant-like tantrum on the world stage. I could see that.
