How could this happen?

Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 239 people — including four Americans — lost contact with air traffic control and was missing hours after it was supposed to have landed in Beijing, the airline said Saturday.

The airline told NBC News that a search-and-rescue mission was under way for Flight MH370, a Boeing 777-200, and that relatives of those on board were being notified.

The flight from Kuala Lumpur, carrying 227 passengers from 14 countries — including two infants — and 12 crew members, had been scheduled to land at 6:30 a.m. in Beijing (5:30 p.m. ET Friday). But Subang Air Traffic Control in Malaysia reported that it lost contact at 2:40 a.m. (1:40 p.m. ET Friday).

Vietnamese Navy has confirmed the plane crashed into the ocean. According to Navy Admiral Ngo Van Phat, Commander of the Region 5, military radar recorded that the plane crashed into the sea at a location 153 miles South of Phu Quoc island.

Al Jazeera reports that China has dispatched two maritime rescue ships to help locate the missing plane.

May God rest their souls in peace.
Thanx for the info. Hope they figure out what caused it.

indeed.

This might be a clue.. That same Malaysia Airlines' Boeing 777-2H6ER with registration # 9M-MRO was involved in a taxing accident back in 2012 at Shanghai Airport. Airplane damage listed as "Substantial".

Narrative:
A taxiing Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 passenger plane (9M-MRO), flight MH389, contacted the tail of a China Eastern Airlines A340 plane, B-6050, waiting on the taxiway at Pudong International Airport. No one was injured.

This is very strange...

Vietnam authorities said contact with Flight MH370 was lost near its airspace, but its exact location and what happened to it remained a mystery 12 hours after it slipped off air-traffic control screens.

Malaysia Airlines said the plane, on an overnight flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, relayed no distress signal, indications of rough weather, or other signs of trouble.
