Strange, a little unsettling. A chinese propaganda video with "America the Beautiful". Hmmmm...

From GAWKER:

"On Thursday night, China launched Tiangong-1, its first space laboratory, and the first step in an ambitious plan to build a complete manned orbiting space station by 2020. Naturally, to show off its handiwork, the Chinese government released an animated video simulating the launch of Tiangong ("Heavenly Palace"), set to the soaring strains of, uhhh, "America the Beautiful." Why? "I don't know how to answer your question," Chen Zhansheng of the CCTV propaganda told The Guardian. "I cannot help you."

From THE GUARDIAN:

"The lift-off was flawless. The orbit immaculate. But while China's leaders were celebrating the triumphant launch of Tiangong-1 space lab on Thursday, viewers of state television footage were treated to a bizarre choice of soundtrack: America the Beautiful.

To mark the launch, the Chinese space agency and China Central Television (CCTV) released aproud animation, set to rousing orchestral strains, of the "Heavenly Palace" thrusting skyward, lofting above the Earth and docking with a Shenzhou crew capsule.
The only problem being that the backing music in question isAmerica the Beautiful – more or less an unofficial national anthem of the United States. The Guardian spotted the blunder after picking up the video from the Reuters news agency while covering the launch....

...The choice of soundtrack for the Tiangong launch raised several questions. Is this the work of an idealist seeking to usher in a new era of trans-Pacific co-operation, a nationalist who wants to colonise American culture as well as outer space, or simply a propaganda gaffe?"...

Chuckle, chuckle.. :) :)

A veiled message? The United States is prevented by law from cooperating in any Chinese space venture.

Which is just totally stupid as space is so huge and we are so small and the wonders to be discovered out their do not care about who lives on what continent on the third planet orbiting a boring little G2 star somewhere under the armpit of the Milkyway....

It's a don't-share-the-potentially-military-valuable technology idea.

Yepp. Imagine what leaps and bounds we could make if the USA, Russia, China, Japan, Germany, France, England, India, Pakistan and co. would team up and permanantly share their resources and brain pool for further space exploration...
