I worked in IT 30 years. I started as a Junior programmer in 1978 and finished as Senior Project Manager. Inbetween ive done every job from 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support, development, server admin, network admin, training, and all the bits of project management. I learned a few things in that period.

1. never use an even numbered windows version
2. never use any version of windows until service pack 2
3. all printers are female
4 never underestimate the ingenuity of an idiot.

Email Stealing Emotet Banking Trojan Resurrected in New Extensive Spam Campaign
Mostly targets the Americas, the UK, Turkey and South Africa
By Sergiu Gatlan

"The target compromise process will automatically begin when the victims open the malicious attachments and, once the victim activates the infection mechanism (Word macros or PDF links), the Emotet payload is downloaded, installed, and launched on the system."
"The Emotet malware spread by this spam campaign also drops the Trickbot and IcedID trojans"
"Subsequently, the malware reports the successful infection to its command-and-control (C&C) server which sends back detailed instructions on what are the modules and payloads it needs to download."

#############################################################
That is a good word of CAUTION for those who have the habit of opening up their emails and clicking on the attachments without fully knowing who is sending it to them. That is not a good idea at all. There are many spammers and worse in the world who seem to make it a habit to send you malicious emails in the hope that you will not be paying attention and will inadvertently open them thus infect your computer system.

Firefox Now Alerts You of Website Data Breaches While You're Browsing the Web
Uses the Firefox Monitor service to alert of site breaches
By Sergiu Gatlan

"The Firefox Monitor service which uses Troy Hunt's Have I Been Pwned platform to help Firefox users find out if any of their email accounts have been part of a data breach now also alerts you if the site you're browsing has suffered a security breach."
"Firefox Monitor will also let its users know when a website they're visiting has suffered a data breach via notifications, a feature that will progressively roll out to all Firefox Quantum users over the coming weeks."

#############################################################################
Firefox is really moving ahead in web browser status! This is great news for many. At a time when security breaches are so prevalent, especially in today's cyberworld, it is refreshing to have a web browser do its part to help alert you to that type of activity.

Apple Sued for Not Using Dust Filters on MacBooks, Charging for Repairs
Law firm goes after Apple for alleged manufacturing defect
By Bogdan Popa

"If you’re using a MacBook or an iMac built between 2013 and 2018, there’s a good chance that your device comes with a manufacturing defect that may eventually cause hardware issues like black spots on the display, significant performance issues, and overheating."
"This is according to Hagens Berman, a law firm that’s now planning to go after Apple with a class action lawsuit because Cupertino doesn’t use any dust filter on its devices."
"Unfortunately for Apple, plans for a class action lawsuit can’t be good news, especially when Hagens Berman is involved. The same law firm has started a series of similar legal fights against the company, including for iPhone throttling."
"Its biggest win was the victory it gained in court against Apple over price fixing in the iBooks store, with Cupertino required to pay no less than $450 million in damages."

For those who use APPLE MacBook and/or iMac this is an item to be aware of!

Windows 10 Said to Track User Activity Even When Told Not To
New privacy concerns caused by Windows 10
By Bogdan Popa

"Windows 10 might ignore user settings and continue logging activity history even when the feature is specifically disabled, according to new user findings."
"As reported on reddit, turning off the Activity History in Settings on Windows 10 doesn’t make any difference, as the data is still collected and uploaded to Microsoft."
"At this point, it’s not yet clear why this feature is ignoring user settings, but without a doubt, it’s a privacy issue that Microsoft needs to resolve as soon as possible. Needless to say, the software giant hasn’t offered any information until now and everyone at Microsoft has remained tight-lipped, so it’ll be interesting to see how the company deals with privacy concerns this time."

#############################################################################
PRIVACY! It is most important these days! While many are now using WINDOWS 10 OS many others are not due to things like this happening. Be sure you are protected at all times.

How to Completely Block the “Secret” Activity History Tracking in Windows 10
Block Activity History once and for all in the OS
By Bogdan Popa

"Now that we explained how you can check if Windows 10 collects Activity History data without your permission, let’s move to the next step and detail how you can actually stop this secret process from happening on your Windows 10 device."
"We’re still waiting for more information from Microsoft, as the software giant has until now remained completely tight-lipped on what exactly happens and why the user configuration is ignored in Windows 10. The two methods, however, will continue to work even after Microsoft fixes the Settings issue."

###########################################################
Thankfully users are alerted to things like this for important information on the OS they are using, in this case WINDOWS 10.

Google Silently Removes Two-Year Software Updates for Android One Phones
There is no mention of OS updates on the official website
By Silviu Stahie

"Google has removed a little bit of text from Android One webpage which indicated that participating devices would be getting two years of guaranteed OS updates."
"Google launched the Android One initiative a few years ago in an effort to unite a very fragmented Android market. With so many companies making phones, the OS market was broken up in numerous pieces. And if we add the fact that most companies choose to modify the vanilla Android OS, then the problem gets even more complicated."
"The original text on the Android One website was unambiguous. “With Android One, your phone will receive at least two years of OS upgrades to the latest version of Android. That means access to the latest innovations and a phone that always runs as smoothly as the day you bought it.”

#######################################################################
What gives? Google should have made this perfectly clear so that every Android user would know exactly what was going on and what to expect.
