Of the united states that is the government, not programs to help the poor. Don't act like a democrat and try to take it out of context. Because it government run healthcare is control over the people it takes choices away from you. It is a socialist program. You show you still think like a Democrat. You sound like Obama. You did not get there on your own.
I've tried, but I can't make any sense of this. What do you mean of the United States that is the Government, not programs to help the poor?

Are you suggesting our constitution only provides that taxes be used to provide for the common defense and general welfare of the Government and not the people they are there to represent?

And why is Government offering a healthcare service taking choices away? What choices are they taking away from you by offering the public a healthcare service?

For the country as a whole not to be used as a political program to get votes. The Democrats use welfare and food stamps to get votes when they say the GOP will take it away

But that is what I am talking about here - a universal healthcare service made available to all citizens. I would agree with you that is the proper route to take and is more in tune with the constitution because as you correctly allude to it does say general welfare which means the whole of the population and not just segments of it in an attempt to buy votes. Though there are all sorts of cute arguments lawyers can make that judges will entertain to side-step that notion I am sure.

You didn't answer my question though about what choices the Government is taking away from you by offering the public a healthcare service.

We do not want socialist programs like universal healthcare that give government control and takes away our freedom and choices. If you want that go to Europe
