Yakut cinema lovers have sent their own Oscar to a famous American actor Leonardo DiCaprio, reports RIA Novosti. Tatyana Egorova who initiated the campaign says Leo DiCaprio has already got it.

It is a figurine of a Mongoloid named “Speaking to Stars”. He is looking up in the sky and id holding a Yakut choroon ritual vessel. The figurine is made of silver provided by people living in Yakutia.

Tatyana Egorova says that it was delivered to the USA several days ago but Leonardo DiCaprio could not come to Miami to receive the Russian fans’ gift so it was sent to Los Angeles and the actor got it.

It is to be recalled , that two years ago the Chelyabinsk Drama Chamber Theatre had an idea to award DiCaprio with their own Oscar made of cast iron, Yuri Sychev, the theater deputy director of Public Relations, said.

DiCaprio acknowledged the gift on his Instagram and expressed gratitude to his fans in Yakutia and also concern for what impact global warrming may have on their Far Northern way of life: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDD8C5DKxMO/

I guess this is his second Oscar, in addition to the one he got for Revenant

:D

Meanwhile, another fan in Russia made a life-size statue of DiCaprio out of flower-paste

DiCaprio's popularity in Russia may be due to his partial Russian heritage, his grandmother was Russian: Russian fans present DiCaprio with a homemade Oscar | KIRO-TV

Both his maternal grandparents, in fact, which he has acknowledged:

DiCaprio's maternal grandfather, Wilhelm Indenbirken, was German.[8] His maternal grandmother, Helene Indenbirken (1915–2008),[9] a German citizen, was born as Yelena Smirnova in Russia.[10][11] In an interview in Russia, DiCaprio referred to himself as "half Russian" and said that two of his late grandparents were Russians.

Off-topic, I admit ...but doesn't Putin look kind of like an older cross between Daniel Craig and Jason Statham?

I figure both could play him fairly well in a movie

Quite possibly, though, how would a British guy do a Russian accent, let alone language? (I saw Sean Connery in Hunt for Red October... don't get me started...)

I'm waiting on The Man's updates on the Miss Russia pageant.

:)
None as yet.

But, here is a very pretty Crimean girl named Anzhelika singing the Russian anthem, to make you feel better

lol Okay, it was a good movie, a classic, far as I am concerned. But just wrong role for Connery IMHO :)
