I donated when I was a GI as part of CFC (Combined Federal Campaign). It broke down how The donation was divided out, so we knew who got paid what.

I gave to the Fisher House, and the ASPCA when I was active.

Do I believe the “Tear Jerker” ads? The skeptic inside me says no.

Of course I apreciate the ASPCA's advocacy, but strays in Cleveland are cared for by our local shelters, and as far as I know, they are 100% reliant on local donations.
You are correct. There are many small shelters everywhere. Some are cats only, as well as dogs. It is easy to drop off a bag of dog food once a month or so. My problem, I want to bring 3 dogs home:) A lot of businesses fund raise for them as well.

The ASPCA ads on CNN for example? (the NO idea choice should just read NO)
No. In the UK, the CEO's of these charities are on over £100,000. For every £1 you donate, only a few pence goes to the good cause. Also, these adverts are just made up to reel the money in.
