The Justice Department and House Republicans appear to be careening toward their tensest confrontation yet in a long-running dispute over documents, with one GOP lawmaker warning that the House could seek to hold officials in contempt of Congress if the FBI and DOJ fail to comply with subpoenas for information.

House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said Sunday that Speaker Paul Ryan led a meeting Friday with FBI and DOJ officials in which lawmakers “went item by item” through outstanding subpoenas from the House intelligence and judiciary committees.

“And Paul made it very clear. There’s going to be action on the floor of the House this week if the FBI and DOJ do not comply with our subpoena request,” Gowdy said on "Fox News Sunday." “So [Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein, [FBI Director] Chris Wray, you were in the meeting. You understood him just as clearly as I did. We’re going to get compliance or the House of Representatives is going to use its full arsenal of constitutional weapons to gain compliance.”

.....

Lawmakers have demanded documents related to the FBI's investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email server, the firing of FBI official Andrew McCabe and the surveillance starting in 2016 of a former campaign aide to President Donald Trump. It wasn’t clear exactly which documents provoked the current level of rancor, but Ryan’s participation in the meeting Friday showed that the fight has risen beyond the committees and could envelop the full House.

============================================

Here is comes. That freight train that was set in motion the moment they decided to go after President Trump without a lick of evidence that he had colluded with Russians.

Now the house Republicans are asking serious questions and to date, the DoJ/FBI has refused to provide answers. Well, they don't get to do that. Congress has direct legal oversight. The DoJ / FBI must answer congressional subpoenas.

Every honest American wants to know what exactly was the inception of the Trump investigation? What was it that made Peter Strzok and others target the "opposition candidate"? We now know, it wasn't the b.s. Papadapolous drunk bar talk, as the timeline for the spies (informants) placed in the campaign came before that event. So what was it?

Contempt of Congress? Impeachment of Rosenstein and Wray? How far will Paul Ryan go to get the information due to the U.S. Congress?

Finally. Looks like there's a strong team that is actually going about and getting stuff done. Not softball questions.

This time, if they do go for contempt, try them in the House, not pawn it off to the local United States Attorney should they/he fail to comply.

BTW If it comes down to contempt, good reason for Trump to fire the individual.

Now, if only the Democrats would side with the Republicans on this one.

This is GOP on GOP crime. The GOP has stop following long standing rules and oversight has been forgotten or used as a tool.

Now committees act ad hoc with chairman acting unilaterally and without members' input.

For the sake of entertainment, it would be interesting if they refused to share the documents. But, I hope they do the right thing and provide what is required.

The new FBI (Wray) needs to decide if they are part of the DoJ / FBI clean up or part of the cover up.

Wray is definitely part of the cleanup crew. He is being VERY tactful, he knows much more than he's saying, but he's gotta limit his responses within the context of the IG report.

Consider, by not firing these agents, now they can compel their testimony as employees.
