"The past few days have been a humbling and educational experience for our company."

Those are the latest words from the owners of The Holy Donut, a Portland doughnut shop that came under fire after announcing plans to lead a fundraiser to support local children by way of the Salvation Army. Social media comments accuse the Salvation Army of not supporting the LGBTQ community.

The doughnut shop announced its plan on Facebook. Users did not take kindly to the fact that The Holy Donut partnered with The Salvation Army to find a few children in need. Commenters on Facebook took issue with the partnership, alleging that The Salvation Army has a history of discriminating against the LGBT community. The Salvation Army has denied that it discriminates against anybody for any reason.

Has anyone heard of this previously regarding the Salvation Army? I had no idea, they are huge around here at the holidays with their Red Kettle campaign.

How ignorant...I have never heard of this. The Salvation Army helps thousands in this Country and abroad. Some have to find an excuse to outrage. I guess when they run out of causes...they dig until they find another one.

I rang bells for the Salvation Army last month. I was surprised by how many donations we got. And some people even smiled when they saw us. (Some looked like they wished the could pass by without making eye contact, but some were happy to see us. :) )

Have never heard about the Salvation/LGBT feud. The background behind that issue must be floating around the interwebs somewhere.

I <heart> Salvation army. Enjoy stuffing cash in those kettles and exchanging pleasantries with the ringers.

Reminds me of the porn actress who just committed suicide due to the fact the LGBT community bullied her for refusing to have sex with a guy who had shot gay porn in the past.

They don't do that here, but used to go carol-singing and collecting. I suspect they're mostly too old to walk very far these days. They seem harmless enough, but it always struck me as odd to have an army fighting for a message of love.
