With a pilotless vehicle you are at the mercy of competing technology advances. Though Predators and Reapers have been flying about for some time. The drone that went down in Iran is the only one I am aware of being hijacked.
Predators are retired, now.

Iran probably hacked the drone, but, either way, they got it and copied everything in it.

It's easier and much cheaper to steal technology than to develop it.

WE need to learn how they hacked it and took control of it.

Concerning F35 being that it is extremely software intense, how secure is it?

Up the Buy ASAP: Fixing American Airpower
Double the buy rate on F-35A starting in 2020 and plan on a minimum of 200 B-21 bombers built in rapid fashion. That will begin to get to the Air Force that America needs to meets the challenges of the future.

The US Air Force is stretched to the brink, with an air fleet too small and too old to meet burgeoning high-tech threats from Russia and China. We need to buy more aircraft, newer aircraft, and faster. For a start, President Trump should ask Congressto double F-35A Joint Strike Fighter production from a paltry 48 a year in fiscal 2018 to 100 a year by 2020. This would solve two crucial challenges: achieving economic production quantities and getting modern combat aircraft in time to meet rising

New engine available to help make this aircraft perform . Plane already costs a fortune then to replace engine at additional expense. Still several years out. better thrust, less fuel consumption. start 2 min in.

Where do we go?

South Carolina is where we go, to pick up the pieces, and try to figure out what happened.

F-35 crashed today, pilot got out, and that's the good news.

This was a B model, the Marine Corps version.

Or, as President Obama would say "Marine Corpse" version.

Oh well, over $100 million down the drain...

Hadn't heard that. This will be interesting to find out what happened. Crashes happen, that's reality.

Lots and lots of software on that thing.

Not seeing a whole lot yet.

According to a military official the Marine F-35B was on a routine training mission and not attempting to land at the time of the crash.
