Heh! And now the left is against the phrase.

In the political social media sphere, the phrase “learn to code” has become one of the worst dogwhistles and has actually been banned by Twitter because it is just so abusive.
But that’s only because people on the right are using the phrase.
Back when Obama was president and he was literally pointing to miners while telling everyone who had lost their jobs to learn to code, it was totally OK.
It was in a document entitled “On the Strength and Resilience of Rural America,” which a guy from Chicago knows a lot about.

Help me out here. I thought I was up on all the cyber abuse possible.
How is the phrase "learn to code" abusive? Why is it a dogwhistle on Twitter? (Which may be a dumb question, considering Twitter's volatile nature.)

I really don't know. If professional coal miners could switch to a higher paying career in computer tech and avoid the black lung that is certainly coming their way, how is making such a suggestion abusive?

I do think it's kind of tacky for a president to use that phrase, but Obama (besides being the worst president in history) is also the most classless. It certainly sounds like something that would emanate from that entitled, spoiled brat's piehole.

Mining jobs aren't coming back. Like buggy-whip makers, they need to find alternative employment. In an isolated community like a mining town, then finding a job they could do online would be a good option so they could avoid the upheaval of commuting or moving.

The swaths of shut down manufacturing plants across Quebec are now being bought up again. In big numbers. By bitcoin mining operators who need educated people and reliably cheap electricity. Something Quebec has both of and no where else does. Whole towns are being revitalized.

A miner or auto worker who had taken Obama's advice at the time would be extremely well set up right now. 6 figures plus stock options.

Perhaps the same words can mean different things when said seriously by an authority figure or when said for trolling purposes on an Internet chat site.

Well then some Buzzfeed or Huffington Post writers can now take that same advice.
And the average salary for coding isn't near 6 figures.

Those mining jobs didn't just go away. They were killed by Obama instituted regulations.
