With a greedy narcissistic, gluttonous adulterer being elected President by people who claim to be Christian and obsess about things like homosexuality and yesterday, a man with the temperament of a mad dog being elected to Congress......is the following funny or just plain sad commentary on where intelligence, thoughtfulness and even basic humane values have gone, in parts of this nation?

Never underestimate the ignorance of a Trump supporter.
They don't like to be called ignorant, violent or have their own "sins" pointed out and as a result, seem to vote out of emotion and spite, NOT out of thoughtfulness and intelligence. They say Trump "tells it like it is", yet when anyone "tells it like it is" about them and Trump, they don't want to hear it. Most people who have much longer knowledge of Trump than his reality TV stuff, have warned those that do NOT know his history about him, but like any snake oil salesman, Trump was able to catch the ear and BS people in parts of the country that do not know what other know and have experienced with Trump. Anyone can be fooled at any time and it is why some do a lot more research than others about who they are voting for and employ a healthy skepticism of what they hear coming from the candidates, talking about themselves as well as candidates talking about other candidates.

It is not just sad, but disturbing that in 2016/2017 someone is still able to appeal to "feelings" rather than facts and figures, to get people to mistrust one of the most important features of any free society (a free press) and try to control and channel the source of all information. It's nothing new to history, just the fact that it can still be done so extensively in the 21st century and in a nation that claims to be among the top in the world. No doubt the internet plays a role, both good and bad, with regard to access to information, but also a tool for those that want to spread misinformation and propaganda. It is no secret that all people need to be MORE wary of any information they find before accepting it as "truth" they then base decisions on. None of us can totally know the absolute truth about anything, but we can use our brains to think and to demonstrate how we think or demonstrate that we are not thinking a whole lot.

While we can all be caught off guard by someone asking us a question out of the blue, one thing that seems to be more common among Trump supporters, whether found on youtube or in actual face to face dialog any may have with Trump supporters is that when asked to articulate reasons for supporting Trump (asked to actually think about it), they often or mostly come up with empty thoughts....like "he tells it like it is" (simple response to that is who does NOT "tell it like it is" and what about people "telling it like it is" about Trump?) or they like what he says......There is rarely, if ever anything intelligent said about Trump or reasons why anyone voted for him.

Partisan Schadenfreude aside....it IS a bit sad what has happened to that ONCE-Grand ...Old Party.

If Lincoln, Teddy, Ike and Reagan were all alive today, they'd be turning over in their graves.

It sure isn't the party of any of those you listed and sadly, I think Reagan, to many former Republicans helped usher in what has now been the decades long era of selfishness and self-centeredness, greed and all the things the current neo republican party seems to have come to epitomize. Even Nixon, the power hungry crook, did a few good things for the nation, in spite of himself. I'm not sure Reagan knew how people would take his lead and turn it into what they have turned it into......an era of "greed is good".....Something anyone with a handle like Gordon Gecko should be more than just a little familiar with.... :friendly_wink:
