Gay couple attacked trying to go to church - with family complications

The worst part of this is that the Pastor of said church himself ordered the attack of the two men, one of whom was HIS OWN SON.

From WBBJTV in Gibson County, Tennessee.

Assault Complaints Filed after Incident at Church

"A gay Gibson County couple said they were assaulted when they tried to attend church services at the Grace Fellowship Church in Fruitland last Wednesday.

"I went over to take the keys out of the ignition and all the sudden I hear someone say 'sick'em,'" said Gibson County resident, Jerry Pittman Jr.

Pittman said the attacked was prompted by the pastor of the church, Jerry Pittman, his father.

"My uncle and two other deacons came over to the car per my dad's request. My uncle smashed me in the door as the other deacon knocked my boyfriend back so he couldn't help me, punching him in his face and his chest. The other deacon came and hit me through my car window in my back," said Pittman. He said bystanders did not offer assistance. He said the deacon yelled derogatory homosexual slurs, even after officers arrived. He said the officers never intervened to stop the deacons from yelling the slurs.

"If I was on the scene I would not have allowed that. The deputy should not have allowed it if he did," said Gibson County Sheriff Chuck Arnold.

Pittman said neither he nor Lee were allowed to press charges while at the church.

"I haven't talk to him but that would be out of character for my deputy to say unless they were causing a problem themselves," said Sheriff Arnold.

Friday, the couple filed assault charges against Deacons Billy Sims and Eugene McCoy. Pittman pressed additional charges against his father and Deacon Patrick Flatt. Pastor Pittman's attorney contacted ABC 7 Eyewitness News by phone and said she had no comment and demanded we not contact the pastor.

All parties are due in court October 4."

There is a video to go with this, it is worth watching. Watch especially the body language of Sheriff Arnold. If you go to the website, you will see it embedded in the upper left hand corner.

The guy who did the main assaulting was Pittman's uncle, according to Pittman Jr.

The video also indicated that the Pastor and his wife are in the middle of a divorce and this could maybe play a role in it all. Uhuh,....

Since this is a developing story, I will post more after October 4th.

Addendum:

The elder Pittman is the Pastor of Grace Fellowship Church, Humboldt, TN

And here is a video of a Wednesday night Service at their church:

And in this video the song was composed by the Pastor himself, according youtube:

People from the area are putting in their two cents on this forum. Might be worth a gaggle.

If this website is right, then the finances of the church are fascinating. READ. Apparently, the Pastor's wife is listed as the "manager" of the church, only 2 employees are listed, with a yearly income of $120,000.

attacking someone , anyone is wrong..

but here is a solution, why don't gay people start their own church, there are many organizations and other churches that would support them. some churches even have gay people in the pulpit and as teachers . and I am sure that they could get all the help they would need. this way there is no confrontation.

Yes and no...

1) I would agree that there is nothing stopping gay people of faith from starting their own Churches. But they really shouldn't have to... We're all sinners and Churches open up to us to guide us. This annimocity against gay people really confuses me when a Church would minister to a murder... wth?

2) If the kids intended to interrupt the service, I can understand the Church wanting to stand up against it... but they should have simply called the police and let the police escort the kids out if they were being disruptive.

oh I fully agree with what you are saying.. but why would anyone want to go someplace where they are not accepted or wanted,? all it does is cause dissension and confrontation.. while the father in this situation should be jailed for at the very least for asault and inciting violence. He also should be removed from the pulpit.

now considering that the victim was his son, then the young man should have known what his fathers views on homosexual behavior was, Knowing this he still tried to antagonize the situation.

Gee, the pastor was his father, the deacons were his uncles. Call it a wild guess but I'd say this was almost certainly a local church that he had most likely been going to his whole life amd was welcome at, right up until the minute he "came out of the closet'. You people; different=wrong=enemy

Gee, if people would just stop insisting on exercising their rights, expressing their personal opinions, expressing their sexuality as they see fit, having different opinions, looking different, thinking different we just wouldn't have any problems at all.
Now why didn't I think of that. Damn humans and that "free will" and that "freedom" thingie.
