Is there some significance to March 8th?
Indeed!

Frisch's Big Boy founded National Tartar Sauce Day in 2017 in honor of the tangy sauce that has become more than just topping for fried fish. Samuel Frisch opened the first Frisch’s cafe in 1905 in Cincinnati. In 1923, son Dave Frisch took over operations with two of his siblings after his father’s death. In 1946, Dave Frisch sampled the first Big Boy double decker hamburger. In what proves to be a momentous decision, Dave Frisch makes the Big Boy sandwich using his homemade tartar sauce to replace the original recipe that called for Thousand Island dressing. Dave’s signature tartar sauce becomes a staple on Frisch’s menu. It has been sold in pint jars for the take-home market since 1960. During Lent, Frisch’s tartar sauce is in high demand for its Frisch Fry menu, but its original claim to fame was on the Big Boy sandwich.

The Registrar at National Day Calendar declared National Tartar Sauce Day to be Celebrated the Friday after Lent Begins annually.

International Women's Day - Wikipedia

:)

It's a pretty big deal, certainly to my wife lol

Must never forget to have flowers and a gift on her side of the bed every 8th, because she definitely WON'T forget :D

It's huge in Russia, traffic police today pull over female drivers to hand out flowers

All sorts of volunteers from government-approved civic society groups also give women flowers in the streets

In Crimea, in Simferopol, ladies got flowers from patriotic activists dressed up in soldier-type outfits, apparently also commemorating the "polite men", the Russian troops who took over Crimea five years ago, anniversary of the annexation is coming up days from now too

Many employers also held events for female staff

Regional media in the city of Yekaterinburg hailed local women doctors, holding a televised show where they talked about their work

Putin, meanwhile, rode around with some beautiful girls (and equally nice looking horses) from Moscow police mounted unit

He joked to them that it apparently takes three things for young ladies like them to maintain their fine figures: massage, gym workouts, and a lover (it rhymes in Russian lol)

And:

Putin also told the female police staff that when they patrol the city woodland parks, the number of accidents drops "because those who wish to commit suicide look at you and want to live again.”
His humour is always weird that way lol

He also later released a video address to Russian women, congratulating them for the holiday

President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian women on International Women's Day in a video message posted on the Kremlin’s website on Friday.

Women’s Day is a national holiday in Russia and one of the most important public holidays inherited from the Soviet period.

"You manage everything at work and at home, whilst staying beautiful, bright, and charming," Putin said, adding that “It is hard to imagine the history and development of our country without the contribution of the great Russian women.”
Putin Applauds Russian Women for 'Managing Everything at Work and Home Whilst Staying Beautiful'

Feminists and women's rights activists over there are not appreciating all this. They see the flowers and candies and all that on March 8th as simply men paying lip service to the women to appear as though they care about them, while avoiding discussion of real issues, like Russia's horrific domestic violence crisis that, according to stats last year kills a woman every 40 minutes over there: Russia's Disappearing Women: Every Forty Minutes A Woman Dies From Domestic Violence

This protester also in Yekaterinburg today wants "respect [for women] instead of flowers"

Various feminist and such groups have planned meetings and discussions in many Russian and also Belarusian cities to finally start talking about domestic violence, gender-based wage inequality, and other issues that badly need addressing over there: This Women's Day It's 'Not Her Fault'

Anyway, here in Toronto there will be all kinds of events too, mostly on Saturday:
There's a rally and march for International Women's Day in Toronto
Events celebrating International Women’s Day in Toronto

I am sure plenty of stuff will be happening in America too. Strange that someone actually has not heard of this holiday yet lol

Hmm...my wife has never made mention of it. Now, on the other hand, if I forgot mother's day, I'd probably be bunking with the dogs.
