Hereditary is the terrifying arthouse horror film of the year
One family’s descent into hell makes for a terrifying, deeply unsettling ride.

By Alissa Wilkinson

“Scary” isn’t the right descriptor for Hereditary, director Ari Aster’s feature debut and the creeptastic movie destined to be this summer’s art-house horror movie, in the manner of It Follows or The Babadook."
"Now, let me be clear: That’s not to say it isn’t scary. I’m a generally phlegmatic moviegoer, but the first time I saw Hereditary I yelped a lot, and very nearly crawled under my seat once or twice, to the bemusement of my viewing companions."

The expression on the woman's face in the opening page sure reminded me of the way many Americans react to Republicans doing nothing to help their bottom line. The important programs that need to be supported and augmented like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are being seriously neglected by Republicans. It sure appears to be quite a hereditary thing among Republicans to unequivocally neglect the needs of the elderly, the poor, the disabled and many other groups. Thus, imho, there is a strong parallel with the film's title.
