How many people attended March for Our Lives? Crowd in D.C. estimated at 200,000

More than 200,000 people attended the March for Our Lives demonstration in Washington D.C. on Saturday, according to Digital Design & Imaging Service Inc (DDIS). The Virginia-based firm uses a proprietary method for calculating crowd size using aerial photos.

The peak crowd size was 202,796 people, with a margin of error of 15 percent, the firm said. The crowd reached its largest size at 1 p.m., according to the company's estimates.

On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people gathered in Washington, D.C. to march in support of gun control laws and endings to gun violence and mass shootings at the March For Our Lives. The march was planned as a response to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last month as students stepped up to fight for the regulations many adults have been unable to achieve. Although the official report has not come from the D.C. law enforcement with a number of attendees yet, stunning aerial photographs show streets jammed with protestors marching peacefully. Estimates from two other sources, however, give wildly different ideas of how many people actually attended.

Time reports that D.C. officials were prepared for a crowd of about 500,000—close to the same number that showed up for the Women's March on the day following Donald Trump's inauguration in 2017.

But depending on whose data you look at, the number was either much, much higher, or much, much lower. The March For Our Lives organizers' estimate attendance in D.C. to be around 850,000 people—well exceeding expectations. On the other hand, a Virginia-based company, the Digital Design & Imaging Service, estimated that the crowd size was around 202,796 people, with a 15 percent margin of error and a peak in crowd size around 1 P.M.

The National Park Service used to analyze aerial images of large events and rallies and produce an official crowd size estimate based on how tightly packed the crowd was, according to the Associated Press, but the agency stopped releasing those figures after the Million Man March. Organizer Louis Farrakhan threatened a lawsuit and alleged that racism and white supremacy led the agency to underestimate the crowd size, which varied widely among different sources.

Washington's Metropolitan Police Department also has yet to release any official crowd estimate.

In the absence of an official figure, some other attendance gauges have emerged. WMATA, the local agency in Washington responsible for the city's metro system, reported total ticketed ridership at 558,735 for the entire day, which it said at midday was two-and-a-half times the volume of a normal Saturday.

How did March for Our Lives crowd size compare to Women's March, inaugurations? | abc7.com

I saw the aerial photographs - for sure the numbers were bigger than Trump's inauguration

Nothing more important in the world today than arguing about the crowd size at a protest.

Ah yes, it's yet another sign of the apocalypse.

Disagree. It's take's a lot of time and effort on people's part to fly to DC, shell out the money for a hotel, etc.

It's just goes to prove that are fed up people will go to great length's to voice their disapproval.

Think of all the protest's again the Vietnam war and how that re-shaped pubic opinion.

But I think I know why you want to "down play this.

Much bigger crowd that IQ45 got.

interesting. Wonder why there's no National Park Service estimate of the crowd size?

They stopped providing estimates after their official count undercut the name of Louis Farrakhan's "Million Man March."

He didn't take it well.
