In Volgograd, Russia, shortly after the city's May 9th military parade, a young homosexual man was murdered in what appears to be a brutal hate crime. The 23 year old man's genitals and face were cut up with blades, his head smashed open with a stone or similar weapon, and it is thought he was also sodomized with a bottle. His identity has been determined but is not being released to the media.

3 young local men were detained by police acting on a hot lead in the case. One has now admitted to the killing, proudly, saying the presence of a "known faggot" (the victim was openly gay) at the Victory Day parade was "insulting to our feelings as patriots".

One of the young men has now been released from custody as it was determined he did not participate in the actual killing, but, rather, simply observed the crime. He is now being treated as a witness.

I am ashamed this happens in my old country.

Seriously, I just cannot get over this... To savagely kill somebody because you don't like their lifestyle... Something is fucking very wrong with that country... It's not the first time, either. Many gays have been killed over there over the years. Not to mention all the racial/ethnic killings. So much hate, so much rage in Russia... I don't even know why.

We have violent asshats in America too. Save your shame for now, but if they guy they apprehended is released uncharged, or receives no more than a slap on the wrist, then you can dust off the shame a bit.

Let's hope he will not be.

Anyway, some more information, from an article in English:

A young gay Russian man has been brutally murdered by two friends in the Russian city of Volgograd after he reportedly came out to them while they were drinking together.

The unnamed 23-year-old was found dead in the courtyard of an apartment building in the city on Friday morning after Russians had been celebrating Victory Day which commemorates the capitulation of German forces in World War II.

The young man’s genitals had been mutilated and reports say he appears to have been tortured sexually during the killing. Police had difficulty identifying the victim due to the extent of his injuries.

Police later arrested a 22-year-old-man and a 27-year-old man – one of whom confessed, saying the victim had been killed because he was gay and for ‘provocative behavior’.

The GAY.RU website is reporting that similar murders of other gay men occurred in Volgograd in 2008 and 2012.

However, another article says they were far from his "friends":

Gay Man Killed in Volgograd by Homophobic Gang

In the morning of the 10th of May, the body of a man was found in the Krasnoarmeyskiy region of Volgograd, mutilated beyond recognition. The criminals beat the head of the man, cut off his genitals, and raped him with beer bottles.

One of the local citizens arrested in the chase admitted his part in the attack and told the police that the reason for the violence was the non-traditional sexual orientation and provocative behaviour on the part of the victim, who allegedly insulted the patriotic feelings of his murderers.

It was also established that this group had committed attacks on gays in the past, the UNews portal reports.

Also, as to how the government over there sees things: after France legalizes gay marriage and adoption, Putin says Russia will reconsider its adoption agreements.

‘We respect our partners, but we also ask that they respect the cultural traditions and ethical, legal and moral norms of Russia. I believe we have the right to make changes.’

During his visit to the Netherlands in early April, Putin commented on the problem of sexual minorities in Russia, ‘No, can you imagine same-sex marriages in Chechnya?! We need to remember what country we live in!’

This kinda shit happens because it is exactly what Putin and all the scumbags in the Russian government want. Just like the Soviet regimes before him, the Putinist government maintains its power by claiming to be protecting Russian people and culture from displays of 'Western decadence' such as gay people...never mind that gay people are born into every country and culture on the planet. Now that the reactionary Russian Orthodox Church is back in charge too, things are even worse.

At the behest of the religious wackos, the Russian government creates a climate of fear and hate toward gay people, whether it's passing all these bans on "homosexual propaganda" like they already have in St. Petersburg and other localities, or banning adoption from countries where gays are allowed to adopt. Then when people on the street, stirred up by this climate of fear and hate, go murder gay people, the government does nothing to punish them or even to investigate the crime.

However the Russian LGBTQ community is a pretty tough crowd- since they have to be! When I went on the gay websites there (gay.ru / love.gay.ru / english.gay.ru), I was shocked at how many openly gay people there are in Russia looking to meet up with other gay people, not just in Moscow but even in provincial Russian cities where I would I never dare to do anything that even might just draw suspicions of homosexuality.

Strangely, Russia is also one of the world's leading producers and exporters of gay pornography...and known for its rather kinky gay pornography at that....
