Inside the media’s relentless crusade to destroy President Trump

Since Donald Trump’s election in 2016, the mainstream media has shed its once-noble mission — the pursuit of the truth — and instead adopted a new purpose: to take down the president. In an excerpt from her new book, “Resistance at All Costs: How Trump Haters are Breaking America,” out Tuesday, KIMBERLEY STRASSEL examines how far the press will go in its relentless crusade . . .

Last week The Washington Post revealed the alarming news that House Democrats were considering having their anonymous “whistleblower” testify from a remote location, and in disguise. Just as shocking as the details of this plan was the justification the Post ladled on this Democratic effort to hide impeachment information from the public.

It explained, high up in the story, that the cloak-and-dagger approach was merely Democrats expressing “distrust of their GOP colleagues, whom they see as fully invested in defending a president who has attacked the whistleblower’s credibility and demanded absolute loyalty from Republicans.”

This, from a newspaper with a tagline of “Democracy Dies in Darkness.”

Maybe the better journalistic epitaph is: Democracy dies in bias. How did journalism get here?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is a great article discussing the media's desire to take down trump. This is not the role of a free press, but the 4th estate has become a 5th column, doing more to propandize and shape opinion moreso than report.

There are instances of meeting, and campaigns by the press that has been exposed. like or dislike trump, are you ok with this?

So, IYO, the problem is not Trump's criminal activity but rather, that the biased, liberal press reports on that activity too often?

Be serious, gorgeous. Imagine what the press and the GOP would have done had Obama been caught LYING about paying off a porn star/hooker for silence about their liaison? And paying from his campaign funds, illegally?

Etc.

Times thousands.

I think it's both. I think the press and the democrats would have been successful had they been more honest. racing to the low road is going to get the guy re-elected. That said, lets discuss the medias role in all this. do you think they treat democrats and republicans the same?

A Fifth Column is an entirely inappropriate term to use here, and the OP knows that, he's just using inflammatory rhetoric to establish a shitty argument.

Any objective review of the circumstances surrounding the president shows that he is Reason Numero Uno for all of his troubles. He convened a Cabinet meeting yesterday about the economy ... and proceeded to talk about impeachment, Republican Party unity, the Emoluments Clause and his business empire all in an aggrieved, harried manner.

The only appropriate response to that is aggressive criticism, because it's an embarrassment. Things don't have to be that way. The president should be someone who practices a little bit of self control. Yet rather than come to grips with the reality of this situation, to come face to face with the leader of his movement, the OP opts to call the media traitors.

That's what a "Fifth Column" is ... people who subversively work on behalf of a national enemy to undermine not just the government or its policies, but the entire country.

I could present a list of people in history who have used this kind of rhetoric, but I think you all can figure it out. This thread is shameful garbage. DON'T call other Americans who simply believe differently from you and pursue a differing political or professional agenda from you traitors. Stop it. It's ridiculous, it is un-American, and it is beneath you.

I'll bite. To whom are the press betraying us? Which foreign power are they serving?

You want to attack the process because the crimes discovered are undeniable. This is no different from referring to impeachment as a coup.

It's dishonest propaganda, in service to a corrupt president.

Want more conservative judges, etc.? Elect a responsible, qualified conservative as president to appoint them.

Bottom line it's a publishing bonanza for the waining media. Maybe it becomes fifth column by default. But if the next president is a saint they'll have to find something else to be obcessive about, depending on what their billionaire owners decide.
