I'm not offended, personally, but I can see where it could be considered "racially insensitive". I think a better question would be "Is Panzareta's Avatar INTENDED to be racially offensive?"

I think it's REALLY hard to offend white people by insulting them over their race. Tell me, what about that image reflects badly on white men? The smile? The hat? What exactly?

I have to agree with Rasselas' statement elsewhere that it's a local/American differentiation. Most people in Britain tend to self-identify as British (though incidentally, immigrants do too!) or Scots/Welsh/English/Cornish rather than as a skin colour. As a native Scot, being born a faint blue colour, it takes a week under a sunlamp to turn myself a pale milky shade.
