Israel is about to destroy this Palestinian village. Will Britain step in?

Israel is intent on destroying the homes of the 173 Palestinians who live in the small shepherding community of Khan al-Ahmar, along with the school that serves 150 children from the area. Last month, Israel’s high court of justice removed the last obstacle to this barbaric act of demolishing an entire community in order to forcibly transfer its residents and take over their land. Israel has announced that the land from which these Palestinians will be evicted will serve to expand the nearby settlement of Kfar Adumim.

The story of Khan al-Ahmar exemplifies Israel’s policy of expelling dozens of Palestinian communities from areas it plans to formally annex. To keep international criticism to a minimum, Israel usually tries to evict residents slowly by creating unbearable living conditions that force them to leave their homes, allegedly of their own free will. To that end, the authorities refuse to connect these communities to running water and power grids, do not authorise construction of homes or other structures and restrict their pastureland.

Now, emboldened by Donald Trump’s overt disdain for human rights...

Seems a bit of a stretch to blame this on Trump...

It isnt entirely trumps fault, however he has exacerbated the situation.
You, and others of your ilk may actually believe that.

Most people without such an unreasonable hatred of Trump would think otherwise.

Trump says and does plenty of things wrong.

This is not his fault.

It is Israel's fault, trump is just acted as enabler.

Any thoughts on Israel's expansion strategy?

Expansion strategy? You mean the expansion of Highway 1? The town is literally within a few feet of a major highway, which is being expanded. Here's a pic, courtesy of Google Maps. I also included a closer view of the village.

Yep, that highway sure looks like it needs to add another couple of lanes to the two in each direction it has now.

Beyond that, the problem is the role of the neighbors, residents of the settlements that were built on Arab land in violation of international law. It turns out that they’re the driving force behind the expulsion of their neighbors. “The neighbor comes before the house,” they say in Arabic. In Hebrew, the slogan is “we settle and expel the neighbors.”

For Tirza, “a settlement is like a military position.” In other words, the settlements are a tool to conduct the government’s anti-Palestinian policy, and when you’re a tool, nothing will awaken your humanity; it’s already dead.

snip

...Yes, the crime of ethnic cleansing is being carried out in your name. And it’s happening now, in real time.

So move it, you lazy silent majority. Go to Khan al-Ahmar and say this in the name of the Jewish people, or at least the sane part of it, and in the name of the Arab community: We will not allow ethnic cleansing!

Wake up from your complacence for once. Translate your humanity into action!

A little history

Though Palestinians lived in the Khan al-Ahmar area prior to the establishment of the state of Israel, most of its residents moved there after being expelled from the Negev by the Israeli army in the early 1950’s. They leased the land from a Palestinian landowner.

In 1975, the Israeli government declared the area state land and began the construction of the nearby settlement Ma’ale Adumim.

snip

In the past, the State Department has helped to deter the Israeli government from carrying out major demolitions. There’s no evidence the Trump administration has intervened to stop this unprecedented demolition — despite frequent rhetoric about its commitment to peace.

Israel has a plan to relocate the village

A spokesman for the Israeli civil administration, Guy Inbar, said the Bedouin are inhabiting the area “illegally and without a building plan”.

“It is an option to move them to the dump area. We are examining the area’s environmental condition, the levels of air pollution,” he said. “The idea is to put them in a legal place.”

The Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection says the landfill, which receives over 1,000 tons of garbage per day, is due to be closed next year as part of a nationwide plan to close all landfills for environmental reasons.

Israel does some things I don't like.

Many times in response to being attacked by her neighbors/various terror groups.

I don't see any major change coming soon.

It is pointless to try to argue logically with a person biased by irrational nationalism.

I've gone down that road with Russian Putinist freaks, Ukrainian Right Sector and other nationalist wackjobs from there, even a couple Chinese nationalists.

They are all the same.

Trump supporters in America too, for more familiar example for you :D

Same with the Zionists, the Israeli nationalists.

They won't listen to rational arguments. They don't care.

They support their country and it's ideology no matter if it's right or wrong :smiley-shrug: It is what it is...

Until we saw Djinn's post we were picturing a long time community with houses, schools, businesses, and such being run over by Israeli bulldozers. Perspective!
