$666 billion, in fact:

The Treasury Department announced Friday that for the 2017 fiscal year, the federal government ran a $666 billion deficit. Last fiscal year’s deficit is the sixth largest in U.S. history and was about $80 billion larger than 2016’s $585 billion deficit, although it could’ve been worse — the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) had projected 2017’s deficit to total $693 billion as of late June.

This despite a growing economy.

Why?

The Federal Government spends more than it collects in taxes.
So now is the perfect time to gut tax revenue with a huge tax cut for billionaires. UhHuh. And with unemployment in the 4% range why do we need to stimulate job growth with deficit spending?

So a massive deficit is okay, because Obama may have done it?
That wasn't what he was saying. Besides, Obama, was only a bit player in this. The federal government, in essence, is bloated and hopelessly corrupt.

It's mission as often as not just seems to be to separate half the nation from it's earnings.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-19/who-wins-with-trump-s-tax-plan

Bloomberg, obviously fake news, what do they know about economics, right?

"The plan would end “the job killing ‘Death Tax.’ Close to 20 percent of family business owners say planning for the death tax affects their ability to create jobs, according to Family Enterprise USA.”
Only two out of every 1,000 deaths trigger the estate tax, which applies only to estates worth more than $5.49 million. Family Enterprise USA, a nonprofit that lobbies for the repeal of the estate tax, surveyed fewer than 200 people, most of them very wealthy"

I think that is exactly what he is saying using comparative morality.

The federal government is a hugely bloated nightmare, top to bottom including the military. It is shameful that no one, left or right, has the slightest interest in attempting to balance the budget.

Unless you plan on stealing every penny from the Medicare and Social Security Trust funds to pay down debt, we need to raise taxes and cut the bloated defense budget.
