CONCORD, N.H. – The Granite State may have been Bernie Sanders country in the 2016 Democratic primary, but Sen. Kamala Harris says she won’t follow in the independent senator from Vermont’s footsteps.

Asked by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy if she would have to run as a democratic socialist – which is how Sanders often describes himself, the Democrat from California quickly and bluntly answered that “I am not a democratic socialist.”

that wasn't a swipe at Bernie . Fox News is just trying to generate conflict. Sanders and Harris are sponsoring legislation together.

Agree, it wasn't a swipe at Bernie. Looks like Kamala is in it to win it. Bravo.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I think she realizes she went too far left with her "get rid of all insurers" comment. She has been up here in NH and is being very moderate. She is trying to appeal to independents. She polled 5th in this mornings newspaper in NH.

Political maneuvering, her problem is breaking free of the old left without going too far left of center.

I don't see her as a chaotic candidate. In fact it surprised me that she made a couple moves that gave that impression. I think she is clawing it back to liberal somewhat moderate (aka logical) without being over the top. Smart.

I think you are right in some ways. That is the classic tug of war when a national election is looming. She doesn't have baggage for either 'too left' or 'not left enough' so the left of center sweet spot may be easier for her to achieve.
