Sounds more like she was the typical Republican of that era. In fact for many of us the Republican party left us. You do know that it used to be less of the authoritarian extreme right regime during the early Nixon era, than it is now? Then they accepted the Dixiecrats into the party.

Going from that to a full blown socialist does not follow in any way other than her being an opportunist that saw one and took it. And I know the history.
