“This incident may have been prevented if ICE had been notified about any of the multiple times Hernandez-Morales was released from local custody over the last few years,” immigration officials said. “This is an impactful, scary example of how public safety is affected by laws or policies limiting local law enforcement agencies’ abilities to cooperate with ICE.”
until these "immigration officials " come forward the story can't be said to be confirmed. This is what Trump would call "fake news".

If he had killed the lady cop that would have been three cop killings in a short space of time. That this cop survived the encounter saves a lot of government bacon since it bucked the trend in growing public concern.

The whole "sanctuary" city thing is quite baffling. Perhaps it was founded with the intent of being more kind to illegal immigrants, but stories such as this sheds a very poor light on the whole concept. Having a loved one murdered is tragic, but having to deal with that, knowing that authorities had every chance of preventing it, adds salt to the wound. "Angel moms" are going to have a voice in future elections and they may prove to be more compelling than one trying to argue why releasing violent felons instead of deporting them is a wise and moral thing to do.

Aside from the actual murders we have other violent criminals (drug dealers, gang members, child abusers, drunk drivers etc.) that have avoided deportation simply because they reside in a "sanctuary city". To me, this makes very little sense and I believe that I am far from being alone on this issue.
