Yes, and Chile hated TR for it, but Panama would have been swallowed by Chile, had that not happened. it served many purposes.
When it was turned over a friend from Panama said,” That is a bad mistake. Panama is too corrupt to own it.”

Listen, anyone who seeks the senate by sprouting bullshit like this, deserves ridicule.
That, I have no problem with. But that is not the point.
Annex, is indeed what we are talking about, don't try to make it 'clean" by hiding behind constitutional law.
You are not making any sense. McCarthy was talking about the constitutional process. Apparently, you did not read the article in your own OP.
Our constitution does not mean others should be compelled to petition for this.
McCarthy did not say anything about compelling anyone to do anything. At least, not according to the OP article. Which article are you taking this from?

it gave Panama enough economic strength to defray the aggressive actions of Chile, we would have been dragged into that conflict. TR was smart enough to see it coming. Economic diplomacy got us talking to China and Russia.

From the link:

McCarthy predicted that he would “get so much hate” for his annexation idea, but the reasoning behind it is sure to stir criticism as well. Mexican citizens should welcome becoming part of the United States, he asserted, because of conditions in their home country. “Listen, you think anybody wants to live like that?” the wannabe senator told the show’s host.

It’s a primary. McCarthy is floating a quixotic proposal to get attention. Other than making for a fascinating discussion, this is folderol.

What is this with people like Trump and this guy who just thinks you can up and annex another country, or in the case of Denmark, just buy it. It's so incredibly rude and disrespectful, to say the least. The quintessential ugly American.

sounds like capitalistic globalism. you have beef?

I think anyone running for federal office in Arizona who DOESN'T have novel, creative and NONCOMBATIVE ideas to alleviate the problems created by illegal immigration is foolish.

I don't think most Mexicans actually want to see their nation become a U.S. state, but the debate this idea would engender on both sides of the border would be healthy.

McCarthy is not talking about military aggression. He's referring to a process in which Mexican citizens freely choose to petition the U.S. Congress for annexation.

It's a fairy tale with a solid moral: that we should LISTEN to the citizens of Mexico.

Crimea wasn't "military aggression" either, as far as Russia is concerned: Crimeans peacefully voted in a referendum and enthusiastically welcomed Russian rule. And, of course, those who weren't so enthusiastic about it have been dealt with harshly, naturally...

Annexations never happen with roses and rainbows, you know. Even not all Austrians were happy to be Anchlussed to Germany before WWII...
