Morgan Freeman: We Are At War With Russia

A Russian diplomat said that Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman was effectively tricked into participating in a video encouraging Americans to fight back against Moscow's influence, according to a new report.

Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for Russia’s foreign ministry, wrote the comments in a Facebook post that was translated by Russia’s Tass News Agency on Wednesday.

"Morgan Freeman has been roped in, just like Colin Powell was," Zakharova said.

"I believe this is another story about the end justifying the means. However, we will know who is behind this story sooner than we knew about the true contents of the infamous test tube," she added.

Zakharova was referencing an incident in 2003 in which Powell displayed a prop test tube containing white powder to members of the United Nations Security Council.

Powell, who at the time was serving as President George W. Bush's Secretary of State, was attempting to gain support for military intervention in Iraq by demonstrating the chemical weapons the country was allegedly harboring.

Zakharova’s comments come after the Tuesday launch of a new nonpartisan group called the Committee to Investigate Russia, which seeks to educate Americans about the national security threat Russia presents due to its “continuing attacks on our democracy.”

Freeman is featured in a video on the organization’s website, in which the actor urges viewers to imagine Russia’s actions in recent months as a movie plot.

“We have been attacked. We are at war,” Freeman says in the video.

The Oscar winner also called on President Trump to address the nation about the “attack” the United States “came under” during the presidential election.

“And we owe it to the brave people who have fought and died to protect this great nation and save democracy,” Freeman says at the end of the video. “And we owe it to our future generations to continue the fight.”

In a declassified report released in January, the intelligence community said Russian President Vladimir Putin called for an influence campaign aimed at helping Trump win the White House.
Russia: America using actor Morgan Freeman to push anti-Moscow message | TheHill

I honestly did not think WW III would be announced by a Hollywood actor, even one as beloved as Morgan Freeman.

Are Russia's known acts in the 2016 election "an act of war" IYO? And if so, is Trump in a position to cope, given that he is under investigation for colluding with Putin?

Your thoughts?

Why are you surprised? In the 80's a Hollywood actor took credit for wall coming down in Berlin and he had nothing to do with it. Morgan freeman made a video for a pretty formidable group of people. Perhaps you should go beyond the video.

Trump isn't indebted to Putin just for rigging the elections.
Trump is indebted financially.

Trump is indebted financially.
Even if he was not, Trump owns several very valuable properties in Russia.

The true extent of Trump's financial dealings with Russia remain unknown, because he never made full disclosure to the public. Or any disclosure.

Or placed his assets in a blind trust.

Note too, his several US bankruptcies have rendered him a bad credit risk to US banks. His current deal, which I think contemplates his Washington D.C. hotel, was financed by Deutsche Bank, in Germany. It's not likely he will ever get another US bank to lend him the dough to build another skyscraper, so unless he is retired as a developer -- and so are his kids -- he will NEED access to foreign money.

Point being, there is every reason to think that Trump NEEDS Russia, China and perhaps other non-allied nations because without good relations with them as president, he cannot advance his interests as a developer.

I said more than once -- as did far more adroit and serious PHers -- that Trump's conflict of interest issues were not workable problems. They are insurmountable. This man CANNOT function as a president, and should NEVER have sought the office.

This country has had wealthy presidents before, but none who sat at the apex of a private, very active business empire. None whose loyalty to this country was at apparent odds with his own financial goals.

It's time the Trump supporters around here start answering some hard questions, such as, what if Trump threatened North Korea at the U.N. in order to curry favor with China or Russia, and not to protect Americans or our allied nations in Asia?

What if Trump's greed exceeds his patriotism?

Questions of self-dealing bordering on treason have arisen in the past as to US ambassadors to obscure nations.

NEVER as to the president.

And it will not be only US liberals who ask.

Freeman is old enough to remember US meddling in 1996...

The U.S. is no stranger to interfering in the elections of other countries - LA Times

"The U.S. has a long history of attempting to influence presidential elections in other countries – it’s done so as many as 81 times between 1946 and 2000, according to a database amassed by political scientist Dov Levin of Carnegie Mellon University..."

"The U.S. also attempted to sway Russian elections.

"In 1996, with the presidency of Boris Yeltsin and the Russian economy flailing, President Clinton endorsed a $10.2-billion loan from the International Monetary Fund linked to privatization, trade liberalization and other measures that would move Russia toward a capitalist economy. Yeltsin used the loan to bolster his popular support, telling voters that only he had the reformist credentials to secure such loans, according to media reports at the time.

"He used the money, in part, for social spending before the election, including payment of back wages and pensions."

Perhaps Morgan's million$ have affected his memory and his politics?

Mueller should hire you since you apparently have all the evidence.

You should at least call him and tell him what you know.
I have a financial crime prosecution background, as a lawyer, Spooky. (Administrative, not criminal.)

I urge you to follow the money. You needn't agree with me. But it is not patriotic to pretend all is well.

If I can answer questions for you, just ask. It's up to you to form your own INFORMED POV. There are plenty of conservative news outlets that focus on money, such as Forbes, Business Week, The Economist, etc.

Don't substitute my judgment for your own, but please, inform yourself.
