As we approach the halfway mark of the 2019 season, the Power 5 conferences have begun to establish potential contenders for their conference championships.
The Atlantic Coast Conference:
There are only two undefeated teams remaining, Clemson (5-0) and Wake Forest (5-0), both in the Atlantic Division. In the Coastal Division, Virginia, at 4-1, is the only one loss team remaining.
The Big 12 Conference:
Oklahoma and Baylor both have perfect 5-0 records, but most consider 4-1 Texas to be the biggest threat to the Sooners.
The Big Ten Conference:
Ohio State (6-0) and Penn State 5-0), both in the East Division, have perfect records, while Wisconsin and Minnesota remain undefeated in the West division with 5 wins each. Michigan in the East and Iowa in the West both have a single blemish on their 4-1 records.
The Pac-12 Conference:
No undefeated teams remain. Nada. Oregon, the only remaining one loss team in the North Division, appears to be the best hope for the Pac-12 to make it into the tournament. In the South, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State all stand at 4-1.
The Southeastern Conference:
Alabama and LSU lead the West Division, both with 5-0 records. Auburn fell to 5-1 after last Saturday's loss to Florida. In the East, Georgia is 5-0 and Florida is 6-0, while Missouri sits at 4-1.
Of course, independent Notre Dame could still be in the hunt for a playoff slot, with the one blemish on their 4-1 record coming in a 23-17 loss to Georgia.
