The biggest thing he is missing is private political actions groups are leveraging their positions (with money and power) to both threaten and recruit members of the media and politicians to align with their efforts. Media matters, for example, has made a campaign of trying to get rid of Fox news personnel. This kind of thuggery that targets political opponents, tries to character assassinate anybody who threatens to expose them and tries to get others to "play ball" or face the consequences is a much more powerful reinforcement of the swamp than nearly anything else on his list.

What do you think Fox News does?

Besides, MM just puts out clips of right wingers in their own voices, saying really stupid and offensive things on radio, internet and television show. How they use the information is besides the point. It's not doctored or edited, it's really Rush Limbaugh or Laura Ingram or whoever who went and actually said that.

And it's not swamp if the taxpayers aren't paying for it.

I applaud Sasse's efforts. This is a good start. These are ACTUAL drain the swamp proposals unlike the lip service to "drain the swamp" we usually hear.

The only way steps like this will happen though is if people get behind them. For the most part, entrenched lawmakers aren't going to police themselves. That's been proven over and over again.

Which is why Sasse knows that he's safe in making such proposals. Safe in the knowledge that not a damned thing will ever come of his proposals.

Nobody has a exclusive license for stupid. And the Arkansas project was a right wing version of today's resist movement. They tried to destroy Clinton before he was even inaugurated. But back then, the red meat was served up and the media volunteered to cook it. Today's armies of media propaganda firms work in lockstep with many politicians and this keeps the swamp protected, dangerous and deluded with a sense of entitlement.

Sasse's reforms are aimed at the government, not the mass media. A free press is a free press and needs to stay that way.
