Russian opposition leader Navalny barred from leaving RussiaRussian opposition leader Alexei Navalny says that he's been barred from leaving Russia.
Navalny said in a blog post on Tuesday that he was due to travel to France to attend a hearing in the European Court for Human Rights when he was stopped by border guards and told that a ruling by court bailiffs have barred him from leaving Russia.
Navalny, who is widely considered to be the most prominent political opponent of President Vladimir Putin, has faced numerous criminal charges in the past that are widely viewed as attempts by the Kremlin to sideline him.
Two separate criminal cases have prevented Navalny barred from traveling in the past but the ban was lifted in spring last year when he had to leave to Spain for urgent medical treatment.
Navalny just got out of jail in mid-October, where he was kept for fifty days straight this time: Kremlin Foe Aleksei Navalny Released After Serving 50 Days In Jail
I bet Trump wishes he could do his opponents like that lol
Anyway, yeah, Russia's Federal Bailiff Service is more than just court security
They are also in charge of enforcing court orders.
Their various branches and departments forcibly evict people from housing
deport illegal immigrants
and also collect various debts, such as fines, child alimony, etc.
To that end, they are now present at rail terminals and airports
They have the authority to prohibit people from traveling for having outstanding fines and debts.
But, Navalny has none of that.
This is simply pure lawlessness, once again...
