They may as well be. You can't have have an opt out option if you are going to implement a national healthcare service. If you allow people to just decide they aren't going to be part of the program and not pay taxes toward it then it won't work. It would just go bankrupt because all the people who can afford good healthcare or have nice union contracts (like these people) will just opt out of it - and we won't be able to fund it. And I can't really blame them in some respects, because it makes little sense to pay for healthcare twice.
So this opt in opt out nonsense is a load of shit. It'll never work, and they know it won't. It's corporate propaganda. Do you think we could pay for medicare now if everyone under 65 opted out?
