The Dolphins sign... wait for it... Fitzmagic!

Ryan Fitzpatrick to a two year contract.

This is the perfect guy to start for them this year as they painstakingly inch their way towards a top draft pick so they can get either Tua, Jake or Justin in the 2020 NFL Draft and then have him there for at least the rookie's first season.

Way to tank, Miami! :D

They sometimes describe quarterbacks like Case Keenum as 'much traveled'. but Ryan Fitzpatrick will take the medal in that department. When he throws his first pass for Miami, he will become the first player in NFL history to throw a pass for EIGHT different NFL teams.

Istanbul NOT Constantinople...
My take on Redskins signing T Ereck Flowers.

Flowers is a VERY big dude. He has wide shoulders, long arms, and a wide-base. He is incredibly strong. 225x37 with 34 and a quarter inch arms. Almost all guys who are that strong have way shorter arms. This is why the man was so good in college - he was a man amongst boys.

Long arms = pass rushers can't get their hands on you.

A monster in the run game. One of the best pure run-blockers around.

Here is Flowers getting to the second level and burying a safety with one arm.

So why did he flop as a pro?

Because he plays way too high (a common problem in the NFL). Because he has incredibly poor technique. Even though he's athletic and he can bend, he doesn't. He is not quick to react, has poor balance and I suspect that he had a weight problem - the usual culprit for destroying a players technique.

Also, he lines up too close to the line. This will get you beat to the outside as a pro.

This is so poor, that I can only deduce that Miami did not do a good job of properly coaching him. He should have been much further back - look at the L guard - he should be BEHIND him and he is actually in front of him.

I believe that Flowers was selected way too high in the draft at the ninth pick. He was no better than a mid-second round selection IMHO. He should never have been thrust into the starting L tackle position. He should have ridden the pine, but the ninth pick of the draft should be good enough to make an immediate impact. The Giants needed him to play because they were desperate.

Redskins will correctly be using Flowers at guard. The issue of playing high will haunt him in 2019 and he will still be a mixed bag of being a road-grader in the run game and a liability in pass protection. Skins will correct this with one of the best position coaches in football and by next year, the guy is destroying defensive tackles.
