We’re fortunate to be living in the most peaceful era in human history, President Obama said in Germany on Monday before announcing that he was sending 250 more American special operations forces troops to Syria.
“I want to begin with an observation that, given the challenges that we face in the world and the headlines we see every day, may seem improbable, but it’s true,” Mr. Obama said in Hanover on the final day of his tour of Europe and the Middle East. “We are fortunate to be living in the most peaceful, most prosperous, most progressive era in human history.

“That may surprise young people who are watching TV or looking at your phones and it seems like only bad news comes through every day,” he said. “But consider that it’s been decades since the last war between major powers. More people live in democracies. We’re wealthier and healthier and better educated, with a global economy that has lifted up more than a billion people from extreme poverty, and created new middle classes from the Americas to Africa to Asia.
“If you had to choose a moment in time to be born, any time in human history, and you didn’t know ahead of time what nationality you were or what gender or what your economic status might be, you’d choose today — which isn’t to say that there is not still enormous suffering and enormous tragedy and so much work for us to do,” he said.

Over 50,000 of my friends and neighbors died in that fucking worthless war. Never tell me we were better off then than we are now.

Yes, seriously. Mr. Obama is perfectly correct. Nowadays, most Americans die of old age, in their beds. Back in the wonderful Middle Ages, people were FAR more likely to be hacked to death, or impaled to death, or burned to death, or any of the hundreds of other creative methods of execution that were devised in the Middle Ages, such as 'drawing and quartering'.

If we could invent a time machine, I bet most of us here would LOVE to send you back to the Middle Ages. Where you belong.

It requires intelligence to understand what Obama said.
“We are fortunate to be living in the most peaceful, most prosperous, most progressive era in human history.
It requires one to be delusional to understand what Obama is talking about.

The Middle East and Africa are afire with war. Millions of refugees are destroying the economies of the EU. The US economy is stagnant and experiencing the most anemic growth in modern history. The global economy is teetering on the brink of recession. And intolerance is spreading across the globe on the wave of refugees.

No, it requires one to be familiar with the ACTUAL EVIDENCE. Look, a bit of advice: Simply Google on "Is this the most peaceful time in history?"

You will find MASSIVE QUANTITIES of evidence that the answer is: YES.

Dude, look back at 1969, tens of thousands dying weekly in Vietnam, three major assassinations of American historical figures in the previous 6 years, inflation getting ready to go into double digits, just elected a crook to be President, and you could not see the sun in Los Angeles for the air pollution, Lake Erie was declared totally dead and some Rivers had so much toxic sludge floating on them they caught on fire and burned for days. Corporate malfeasance was setting new records and we were preparing to abandon the Moon Program. Now, tell me how much better it was in those days, again. Not to mention race riots that make BLM look like a Sunday school picnic, National Guardsmen gunning down college students and domestic terrorists bombing public buildings.

During which era in history would have you prefer to have lived?
