i am suggesting that if you are going to give paid time off.... then thoes without children should be allowed the same paid time off for the asking....
Unfortunately you have a point, but also unfortunately society doesn't appear to be playing childish games like "well he got some, why not me!?"

Sorry.

I still have the same insurance plan and doctor as I did in 2007. Don't you?
If your insurance is through your employer....mostly likely you can still see the same doctor. If you had insurance through the exchanges, it is a good possibility you would have to change doctors because many doctors do not accept insurances through the exchanges. My physician is through one of the large integrated medical systems locally and there is a big sign that states that insurance through Obamacare is not accepted.

Employer:

Pays you to do a job youre not doing.

Has to hire and train someone to do your job.

Has to lay that person off when you come back.

As a result of the layoff has to pay more in unemployment insurance.
Yes that is a reality, but it doesn't have to be that way.

3 years ago my counterpart/partner in my field had a baby and was gone for only 2 months. I picked up her slack.
We didn't have to hire anyone.

And I was happy to do it.

Sure this is anecdotal, but it illustrates that this isn't black and white with regard to employers.

Its 3 months vacation pay..... I dont really care what the problem is. Baby, parents.... or a nice long stay in hawaii. Its 3 months off your job for personal reasons. Its 3 months that the rest of your co workers have to pick up their slack. What if you are a small business and several people having babies at the same time? Do you give it to some and not others?

And then what do you do with the workers who have a baby a year? How is that fair to those without children?
This should be a given. People should get a lot more time off work.

I think people eventually grow out of worrying about what another person gets over another person when they begin to grow professionally. Women make up 55% of the work force now....and they also have the role of sustaining the human race. The Family Leave Act is not about vacations and neither will this new bill if it passes. You have to state the reason you are taking the time and some actually get denied. I had to use the Family Leave Act when my Mom was dying.....trust me, it was far from a vacation. It is also not a vacation to recover from a surgery or adjust to being a new parent.

When my HS students start whining about preferential treatment, I tell them..."Your time will come when you need something"

This is insanity! If we keep on this high speed freeway towards socialism, soon people will be lining up to become employed in exchange for benefits!!
