The verdict is in. The alleged battle for the soul of the Democratic Party that pits House Speaker Nancy Pelosi against freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a ratings winner.

And like lots of things that rate well, this feud is entertainment packaged up as an indication of the leftward drift of the party… when the reality is quite the opposite.
Pelosi’s comments make clear what Democrats have been saying since the 2016 primary results came in: The strength — and votes — of the Democratic Party aren’t coming from far-left progressives, but the center-left coalition that backed Hillary Clinton and won the party back control of the House in 2018.

One legislator, one vote: Nancy Pelosi, AOC and the woke Twitter myth

Interesting read. The author makes some valid points.

Found this interesting and the midterms backed it up:

"Recent data from the Hidden Tribes Project found that, by a ratio of 2 to 1, outspoken liberals who post online are outnumbered by moderate, less-educated Democrats who don’t post online. The Democratic electorate on social media is only 13 percent moderate, as opposed to 24 percent in real life. Progressive activists account for 39 percent of the social media-active Democratic base, but only 22 percent of the party identifies as such off social media."

Social media is full of the same people over and over again espousing their views, loudly. Most people dont do that. It would be like taking polls of all the political forums and then saying that represents the parties when only a small fraction of the populace participate.

Also saw this and got a kick out of it. The "newbies" in Congress calling Pelosi "salty."

Pelosi said "our bill" was the best Democrats could do. She criticized the four liberal freshman – whom Dowd referred to as "the Squad" – for being the only members of their party to vote against the original version of the legislation passed by the Democratic-led House, which included some protections for migrant children.

"All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world," Pelosi said, according to Dowd. "But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got."

Now Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has tweeted she’s “sorry not sorry” that Pelosi is “salty” about “WHO is wielding the power to shift” public sentiment and impact the future of the Democratic Party.

Rep. Ilhan Omar has a message for Nancy Pelosi

AOC and those same four get a lot of attention, but Pelosi has a coalition she has to hold together which does involve more than far left progressive views. No one has talked about the moderate democrat wins in Trump states in 2018 being the cause of the Democrats taking over the House. The far left might get a lot of attention but when it comes down to the grassroots, most people fall somewhere in the middle and that includes both democrat and republicans. The populist has just gotten a lot of noise in recent years.

I believe I put it differently. An empty rainbarrel makes the most noise. These lefties in the Dem party are yelling loudest. I can't believe regular Democrat VOTERS go along with AOC's nonsense.

Very true, plus Pelosi has decades of experience and knows how things work. Whether one agrees with her or not, she is the consummate politician.

I am fairly political active here locally and I can say I dont see many other than maybe college kids following this path. Most seem even keeled and tempered. Even about Medicare for all and such, they believe slow and steady wins the race. Some were even sad to see the hands shoot up at the debate over healthcare for immigrants and getting rid of health insurers. Those may be end goals but certainly not something to propose now.

Two things from the link - Pelosi saying

1) AOC’s views are not mainstream. That translates to, "AOC, you are a lying thick bint"

2) Elections aren’t won on social media; they’re won at the ballot box. At last, the old hag has confessed that the Russia hoax was a pile of crap.

Agreed. It's like a herd sometimes over there.
