PETA wants you to stop saying "bring home the bacon" and other common "anti-animal" phrases - CBS News

In the chart, PETA also recommends replacing "take the bull by the horns" with the more innocuous "take the flower by the thorns." Instead of the expression "beat a dead horse," it offers the somewhat comical alternative "feed a fed horse." And last but not least, the animal rights group suggests replacing "be the guinea pig" with a phrase that features an inanimate symbol of scientific experimentation: "Be the test tube."

In a follow-up tweet, the group then compared the use of the original phrases to racist and homophobic language, writing: "Just as it became unacceptable to use racist, homophobic, or ableist language, phrases that trivialize cruelty to animals will vanish as more people begin to appreciate animals for who they are and start 'bringing home the bagels' instead of the bacon."
There is a lot to talk about here.

The comparison to racism and homophobia is absurd as we do not have a social issue in this country where people's treatment of animals plays any part. Name one glaring social issue that is effecting this country that has anything to do with how we treat animals. This isn't social justice as they proclaim, this is an attempt at conditioning us to be like PETA members in our day to day lives. That's an effort on their part, not of society.

Secondly, the meme-level content these yahoos are providing the internet is nothing short of legendary.

I believe feeding a fed horse is quite cruel as it can cause colic and laminitis among other things - it's unadvised. Simply by overfeeding a horse a few pounds of grain is serious concern for the horse, a horse owner and often requires a vet's intervention. But I'm probably beating a dead horse by even mentioning it.

Take the bull by the horns - means to be brave with a difficult task or responsibility
Take the flower by the thorns - means you bravely did something stupid because your forgot to prepare (gloves)
Ain't no preparing for taking a bull by their horns.

Even though we are familiar with the Rose and Bougainvillea plants, there are relatively few flowering plants that produce thorns when you look at the wide and various species of flowering plants.

Feed two birds with one scone.

Scones have baking powder in them. Baking powder expands when it enters wet environments.

This connection has even led to theories long before any of us were born that baking powder can cause a bird's stomach to expand to cause serious damage - accompanied by a legend of "exploding birds"

The baking of the scones created the dough rising reaction and expelled the gas which works better if you put a little acid like lemon juice in the dough. So the scone has already been neutralized. Bird safe.
