How would democracy exist if Germany and Japan had won the war? And what about the Soviet Union? Who do you imagine would have stopped them from doing whatever they want? That's not true and you know it. Democracy was in existence for 500 years in Switzerland before the US was even a gleam in anyone's eye. The US is nothing special, we're just a buncha folks who got tired of living under a yolk and carved out our own territory. Oldest story in the world, it's happened thousands of times. The problem is we have some arrogant assholes in our foreign policy establishment who can't justify their jobs unless they can convince others the US is somehow "special". This is how they get our Congress to spend tons and tons of taxpayer money on other peoples' countries, where there's no regulation and no oversight. Representative government is the natural condition of human beings, and I think it's pretty fucking arrogant for the US to believe it has some kind of "special responsibility" to impose that on others. You can not impose freedom, it doesn't work that way. You go ask the Iraqis which they value more, running water and reliable electricity, or those god-awful purple thumbs.
