"Oh...we're so put-upon. We like being ignorant but city people keeping making us aware of stuff we don't like! WAAAAAAAAAA!"—Rural Person

Colorado county to vote on secession

The Weld County Commission unanimously approved the resolution’s language, which reads: “Shall the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, in concert with the county commissioners of other Colorado counties, pursue becoming the 51st state of the United States of America?”Weld County is one of ten rural counties where activists have held meetings about seceding from Colorado. The activists started pushing for the meetings after this year’s legislative session, when Democrats who control the Colorado legislature passed new laws regulating firearms and oil exploration. The new measures, conservatives believe, are the latest steps taken by an overbearing legislature that’s Denver-centric, to the exclusion of the state’s rural areas. The legislature also passed legislation legalizing same-sex civil unions this year, on a party-line vote.

Rural counties should get what they want. If that means being left the fuck alone, then by all means leave them the fuck alone. Withhold "support" and exempt them from your "we're all in this together" schemes. Win-win.

I think liberals consider them a pain in the ass because the liberal agenda requires universal forced participation in all sorts of urban and suburban bullshit that isn't appreciated by people who enjoy living in rural areas.

For that, urban metrosexuals with all their universal do-gooder mandatory everyone-help-everyone schemes are a pain in the ass. Pretend you're generous when really you would fight to the death to not have to leave anyone the hell alone.

As a dyed-in-the-wool redneck and woodser-for-life, I gotta say rural people can be a royal pain in the ass.

The rural counties of Colorado seem to have if figured out.

The wealth of Colorado isn't in the little cities they have, like Denver and Boulder, it's in the countryside, away from the fascists in the city.

The counties break off, and suddenly the fascists wrecking the cities have to pay their own tax demands.

Sounds fair, so it won't happen.

Not all rural counties, just the ones the oil companies control.

I wish I was in the Army and assigned to ride in in a little jeep convoy and make them submit. JK

When a prog dissents, it's the "highest form of patriotism"...

when anyone who doesn't goose step to progressive dogma does, they're a "regressive", hillbilly neanderthal "extremist"

In this case, they're secessionists. Hopefully they won't resort to terrorism as in 1861.
