Rural Dems: Party Ignored Us, Suffered Consequences

Democrats in rural America have a blunt message for the rest of their party: We saw the electoral disaster coming — and it’s your fault.Strategists and party officials say their warnings about the party’s lackluster outreach to rural voters went unheeded by Democratic leaders for years, culminating in this month’s shock defeat to Donald Trump. A presidential candidate who actually performed poorly in many cities and suburbs nonetheless scored an upset victory because of a surge in support from small towns and rural areas.

To these old Democratic political hands — many of whom hail from well outside the cities where most party professionals live — the outcome would have been preventable if the party had developed and sustained an effort to win over these voters. Instead, they say a Democratic Party that focused on only the urban and suburban vote either ignored rural America entirely or badly mishandled the outreach it did undertake.

These same people won't appreciate city folk trying to remove the electoral college. And yet what will the DNC learn from the paddling they got on the eighth? If they learned to double down, they're in for another lesson.

So what does that tell us ? Uneducated rural stupidity is a demographic, geographic phenomenon, it's not party based.

They are doubling down, as are the left on this forum. This was to expected, because they are in denial.

The above quote tells me that you just do not "get it....."

For EIGHT YEARS you folks have been preaching at us about "demographic shifts," "ignorant white people," etc.

Well, perhaps, maybe, all of that preaching (along with your consistent urge to insult those who do not agree with you politically...), helped create the scenario Democrats finally find themselves in.

The problem for the Left, is that....those common white rural people you so loathe....they aren't going anywhere.

So, you can either double-down on your own prejudicial stereotypes, OR....you can try to mend fences and see if perhaps, you can win back some of these people.

Well, a handful of them have made it to Phase II: Anger.

Perhaps, one or two have moved on to Phase II: Bargaining, but, I have not seen or heard much evidence on this.

Most seem stuck in either Phase I or III.

I can only hope Chuck Schumer,Warren , Brown, Sanders and others start smoking up the air waves. Other wise,it will get no better.

Now they are really going to suffer. That had to be the dumbest movement I have seen in a while. Way to cut off their own nose to spite someone else's face.
