It seems Russia is sending their nuclear bombers closer and closer to the US border. Its almost like they are daring us to do something.

"Russian nuclear bombers were spotted flying near Alaska this week. The bombers were escorted by fighter jets, floating just outside of U.S. and Canadian airspace. This is the second such sighting since June, sparking the attention of American military jets."

"There have been about 16 Russian forays in the Alaskan and north Canadian area in the last 10 days."

"It is not entirely uncommon to see Russian planes in this airspace, however, the increased number of such planes seems to be triggering some concern amongst the aviation military community, particularly given the increased tension in Ukraine."

It is ironic, that the same Russians who have a habit of shooting planes down, when they enter RUSSIAN air space, are so willing to violate the air space of others.

But, they only do this...because they can..........

No, not the same. If the pro-Russian militants in Ukraine, who shot down that plane, had nuclear bombs at their disposal, that whole war would be long over by now. ;)

Putin knows that Obama won't do anything. He will continue to provoke until he sees a threat.

Right now he sees no threat.

Well.. the story said NEAR airspace.. not "VIOLATED" big difference.
"Nuclear" bomber? Well...neither the USA nor Russia has nukes on planes unless there's a "brink of war" situation. Technically...we can put a Nuke on an F-15 fighter. However...probably most planes in our AF never hasd a live Nuke aboard.

We've flown around Afghanistan,Korea,Turkey...probably Poland...so were at times fairly near Russian turf. This stuff gets done as "show" and I'd note to that the Russians DO use the old Bear "bomber" for long range recon. Those WERE Bombers...about 50 yr ago.

I didn't read in the OP where they had violated any airspace. If Putin provokes a war with the US he won't get what he wants in the Ukraine.
