Schumer warns Trump: Don't interfere in Mueller probe | TheHill
By Jordain Carney

"Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is warning President Trump not to interfere with special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation after Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chairman, was charged as part of the probe."
“The President must not, under any circumstances, interfere with the special counsel’s work in any way. If he does so, Congress must respond swiftly, unequivocally, and in a bipartisan way to ensure that the investigation continues," Schumer said in a statement."
"He added that "the rule of law is paramount in America and the investigation must be allowed to proceed unimpeded."

Trump needs to start exercising better judgment on important matters such as these. He needs to listen to an experienced senior lawmaker such as Senator Schumer and abandon his own thoughts that may well prove to be destructive in the long run.

I hope Trump does. I hope Trump screws up again like his firing of Comey.

Trump is been going ballistic with Mueller's first indictments...just think what Trump is going to do when it is ...maybe a family member.

The more Trump screws up...the easier it will be for Congress to drop him.

If Trump sacks Mueller, or starts issuing pardons, he's affirming the guilt of those being investigated.

Trump can't fire Mueller it was brought out by a savvy, very experienced attorney that appeared on nationwide network news recently who was speaking to just that. He said that only Rob Rosenstein, the Deputy Attorney General of the Justice Department, could fire him. Trump does not have the authority to do it on his own.

That's a mere technicality. The President could fire anyone who refused his order to fire the special counsel until he managed to work his way down to someone who would follow the order. Nixon did that, but then Congress threatened impeachment and he resigned.

As for Schumer, he is merely grandstanding. He has no real authority to hold the President responsible for his behavior.

Mostly correct (more correct than I was, anyway)...

Q: Can President Donald Trump fire special counsel Robert Mueller?

A: Not directly. Only the deputy attorney general who appointed Mueller can fire him and only for cause. But Trump could fire the DAG, or order the special-counsel regulations repealed and fire Mueller himself.

Yep. The threat of impeachment is the only effective remedy available should Trump choose to obstruct justice by firing Mueller, and both houses of Congress are currently controlled by hyper-partisan Republicans.
