Not sure this is in the right place but I would really like to have a rational discussion on this Country, War and protection we give.

More and more I am hearing younger people angry about this 17 year war.

They agree with Trump on getting out, insisting others pay their share of protection. They blame both parties for getting us in, not getting us out.

We have been in Germany and Japan since 1945, rebuilt them with the Marshall plan.

Meanwhile they have built the latest Trains, Infrastructure.

Most of you were not here in 1945. Do you understand why the middle class is agreeing with Trump? Our Countries infrastucture is falling apart while Congress feeds more into the war machine.

Any of you ever think about Dwight D Eisenhower and his,”Beware Of The Military Complex?”

And do not turn this into a Political thing. Can we think about this sensibly?

It is called "The Military Industrial Complex".

Yes, we've been spending way more on the military than we should have since WWII. And then so many screech that we can't afford to maintain our infrastructure or to ensure all of our citizens receive the medical care they need. Sad but true.

It may get better.

Trump said that we can't be the worlds "Policeman" any more.

I'm sure that makes you happy.

Right?

President Eisenhower said:
Now this conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence — economic, political, even spiritual — is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources, and livelihood are all involved. So is the very structure of our society.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

If we haven't already done so, we will be very close to deploying the first soldier born after 9/11
Close, perhaps, but not quite ... such persons are still only 17 and probably still in high school. Getting there, though.

True but technically you can have a 17 year old recruit with parental consent. Straight on 17th birthday unlikely but you can have a young senior graduate from high school and still be 17. Different grades have different cutoff dates as well. But I believe that the senior class TODAY is mostly born after 9/11 and so they come out in May/June, some will join the military, go through training and when they start getting deployed this becomes an intergenerational conflict.
