Sexual assault is now a pre-diagnosed condition

Christina Turner feared that she might have been sexually assaulted after two men slipped her a knockout drug. She thought she was taking proper precautions when her doctor prescribed a month's worth of anti-AIDS medicine.

Only later did she learn that she had made herself all but uninsurable.

Turner had let the men buy her drinks at a bar in Fort Lauderdale. The next thing she knew, she said, she was lying on a roadside with cuts and bruises that indicated she had been raped. She never developed an HIV infection. But months later, when she lost her health insurance and sought new coverage, she ran into a problem.

Turner, 45, who used to be a health insurance underwriter herself, said the insurance companies examined her health records. Even after she explained the assault, the insurers would not sell her a policy because the HIV medication raised too many health questions. They told her they might reconsider in three or more years if she could prove that she was still AIDS-free.

Amazing.

Yes.

Amazing that health insurance companies need to provide an excuse to not take on a client.

There are some in congress that truly do care about the citizens. I hope this woman has contacted as many in congress as she can to complain about this - this is outrageous.

BTW, speaking of caring congress critters, have you seen this?

'Die quickly' congressman creates namesofthedead.com; GOP cries foul

By Jordan Fabian and Molly Hooper - 10/21/09 02:53 PM ET

Rep. Alan Grayson, whose "die quickly" remark gained him much attention, has created a new website based on his meme called "namesofthedead.com."

On the site, visitors can log the names and stories of friends and relatives who died because they lacked health insurance. Users are prompted to enter their name, address, zip code and e-mail address, as well as their friend's or relative's name, hometown and story.

"I have created this project in their memory," the site, funded by Grayson, says. "I hope that honoring them will help us end this senseless loss of American lives ... Help us ensure that their legacy is a more just America, where every life that can be saved will be saved."

Grayson is definitely a people person.

She better pray that Obama's health plan goes through so that she no longer has a pre existing condition.

The nerve of her, how dare she allow herself to be a victim.

If they were shot because they were fuckheads, could their insurance carrier refuse to pay for the medical care needed?

I mean, if being sexually assaulted is a pre-existing condition it only follows that being a fuckhead is pre-existing.

All insurance companies or that one in particular? There are more than one...

It's a sad story, but it's not like she became 'uninsurable.'
