Cruz's Protect Kids and Parents Act would require the federal government to keep immigrant families together "absent aggravated criminal conduct or threat of harm to the children.

Details:

  • Doubling the number of federal immigration judges, from roughly 375 to 750.
  • Authorizing new temporary shelters with accommodations to keep families together.
  • Mandating that immigrant families be kept together, absent aggravated criminal conduct or threat of harm to children.
  • Providing for expedited processing and review of asylum cases so that — within 14 days — those who meet the legal standards will be granted asylum and those who do not will be immediately returned to their home countries.

That all sounds very reasonable and the right thing to do. I am sure he will have bi-partisan support for such a bill.

It's clearly the right thing to do.

I am sure it will get done soon. Trump is headed to the Capitol to work out comprehensive immigration reform this week. So, let's hope it all gets worked out... finally.

Are you sure it'll not contain a demand for the border wall? (I'm not)

Are we really going to break up thousands of families on the chance that some of them might be scammers?

"Some"? More than some, and as soon as we change it and make it easier they will all claim parenthood of a kid, for their own benefit too. And more billions over their lifetimes burdening American taxpayers.

Plus as of now the majority of "children" (and we know many aren't children) arrive without an adult. So opening another can of worms. Want in? Grab a hold of an unaccompanied kid and claim parenthood.

Don't you believe it. It's just a ploy to try to pull the wool over the eyes of Americans to make them believe that he truly cares for the children and their parents, that's all.

Where has Cruz's support for the immigrant children been all this time had it not been for an election year? You have to remember that this IS an election year and Beto is not that far behind him so Ted had to think of something to show that he is the O Compassionate One for the children. What a joke! He couldn't be compassionate for children or the poor if he had a book of instructions.

So, don't fall for that as all that glitters is not gold. He is a good strategist and he knows in an election year his coming up with that type of legislation is bound to get him some good votes. But the public needs to know and realize where he is coming from and dismiss his idea as nothing more than an election year ploy to try to win reelection. That's it.
