This is why we don't want teachers armed.

In the time between when police were dispatched and when officers arrived, a handful of churchgoers wrestled Jones to the ground. One of the congregants was able to grab Jones' gun.

Officers entered the building and saw the churchgoer holding the gun and opened fire, according to the Amarillo Police Department. The churchgoer was hospitalized in stable condition.

People with guns are 4.5 times more likely to get shot than those without guns.

Conclusions. On average, guns did not protect those who possessed them from being shot in an assault. Although successful defensive gun uses occur each year, the probability of success may be low for civilian gun users in urban areas. Such users should reconsider their possession of guns or, at least, understand that regular possession necessitates careful safety countermeasures.

Does that study include self defense with a firearm where the gun isn't fired?

It distinguishes cases in which the victim had a chance to resist - in which case the gun owners are only 3x more likely to be shot than someone without a gun.

This is what concerns me the most about teachers carrying firearms -- police are going to shoot them, thinking that they are the attacker and you bet your sweet ass they will.

This doesn't apply here because the person got shot and killed by the police and not by the person who initiated the assault. Secondly it wasn't his gun.

People without access to guns are 100% less likely to shoot people than people with access to guns.
Pretty much everyone in America has access to guns, either legally or otherwise.

With 300-350 million guns already out there, they are readily available.

I don't know of any REALISTIC plan that would fix that...
