Maybe we just have to wait for the species to suffer some more deaths?

We analyzed data for 50 states over 19 years to investigate the relationship between gun prevalence and accidental gun deaths across different age groups. For every age group, where there are more guns, there are more accidental deaths. The mortality rate was 7 times higher in the four states with the most guns compared to the four states with the fewest guns.

That's just accidents. Go look up the data about most people being killed by people they know.

If we do nothing, eventually, even ardent arsenal keepers may be chastened. They just have to accidentally lose a loved one or accidentally blow off a foot.

Unfortunately, losing a foot or accidentally killing a loved one doesn't impede their ability to reproduce. Some women find a brooding peglegged guy very sexy. Plus they have kids much faster than they kill them, so I'm afraid it's doomed to fail.

I have to believe there are enough reasonably sensible people who, if in their small rural community, buried a disproportionate number of yahoos would see some wisdom in cutting back on guns.

The data used in from a 2001 study based on data from 1988.

There has never been correlation between firearms and suicide rates.

Yes, just wait and do nothing...
