but how are you going to remove the current justices? the idiotic notion the court is packed with right wingers aside.
No need to.
They will simply be outvoted.
Then every time one party controls the govenmrnt they get to rearrange the SCOTUS to their liking.......just like the GOP has done.
Simple.

Nope. 9 is perfect. People just need to vote. We get what we deserve when less than 60% of the populace vote.
I agree...unless. If people vote for the politicians who institute policies they like, but then the SCOTUS repeatedly declares those policies unconstitutional, that would be a problem. It could take a generation to recover, in the meantime we wouldn't get policies that might be overwhelmingly popular.

Let's remember that the SCOTUS once declared that pretty much any laws governing employer employee relationships (like a minimum wage, overtime laws, safety and health regulations) were unconstitutional infringements on the rights of individuals to contract with each other freely. If someone wants to work in unsafe conditions for $0.25 per 16-hour day, it's not the government's business to stop them.

Let's also remember that in 1857 the SCOTUS ruled in the Dredd Scott case that slaves were property and not really people.

Many immoral SCOTUS decisions have stained even our recent history such as Citizen United and Heller.

I disagree. There was a time when both sides had civilized hearings and actually agreed on a candidate that was O.K. for both sides of the aisle.
There is not much agreement anymore. Left and Right are now completely different worldviews.

FDR tried and failed but the GOP has turned today's court into a RW sham. This needs to be done for the court to ever be trusted again and is within the power of Congress.

All the more reason to vote against any Republican in any race in the future!
What damage has he done that you need the SCOTUS? Do you have a list please.

The premise that the Supreme Court is currently "packed with right wingers" is a little silly. At the moment it does lean 5-4 to the conservative side, but overall the quality of the justices is high. Roberts is a pretty moderate guy and does a nice job balancing the picture i think.

If the Dems win in 2020 (which i would predict) then ginsberg can finally retire and the new prez can try to replace her with a newer/younger version to hold the spot for the next couple of decades.

..
Really, you think republicans would allow a democrat president to appoint a replacement for her?

That was not quite the substance of Dred Scott. Slaves were already property as a matter of law. The problem is that the Court, in that case, ruled that blacks could never be citizens with protected constitutional rights. Dred Scott v. Sandford - Wikipedia

There's no point increasing the number of judges to pack the court; the Republicans can increase it again when they get into power and stick a bunch of 30-year-old Trump supporters on the court. They need to look into changing how the justices are appointed and how long they can serve, since the current system is so clearly broken, probably permanently, but packing the court is only going to be a temporary fix and a very bad precedent.
