Today is payday but not for hundreds of thousands of government workers because of the shutdown
By Anne Flaherty

"Friday is payday for many Americans, but not for hundreds of thousands of federal workers affected by the government shutdown. They're missing their first paychecks as Congress and President Donald Trump continue feuding over whether to build a border wall."
"Today is day 21 of the partial government shutdown, which this weekend could become the longest in U.S. history."
"An estimated 800,000 federal workers are either on furlough or are required to work without pay, with no deal in sight."
"Federal employees started this shutdown nervous and anxious about their future," he said. "Today, many of them will be downright terrified about whether they can make their car payment, their mortgage, their day care bill or their children's tuition bills."

############################################################################

What a shame that the Trump government shutdown has gone this long and this far! What A Shame! Hundreds of thousands of Americans are needlessly suffering because of that. Through no fault of their own they are now having to do without their all-important paycheck today and in days to come. Will they be able to put food on the table for their families and pay their bills? Perhaps not. What A Shame!

Why do the Democrats hate the Citizens of America so much?

Their seething hatred for the President obviously supersedes the needs of America's citizens.

Here we go again. Trumpter's bringing up the Hate word first. I don't hate Trump I despise him. If we have to tell you why then you haven't been listening.

Ahh...the hate word again.

Every single President in the last 40 years has said that the "Buck stop's with the President." Except for Trump. Who even said he owns this shutdown. It's his, and his only.

Trump even said that "President's should be fired over Government shutdowns." You can't make this shit up. Therefor the Shit Show continues.

Don Lemon: Trump Suggested Obama Should Have Been Fired For Shutdown, "Priceless"

I love Don Lemon, don't you?

So what's the problem? - Tomorrow is Saturday and a day off for a lot of these guys. They can clean out their attics and hold garage sales, become mystery shoppers, or start a dog walking or babysitting service. If need be, bankruptcy or asking Daddy for a bailout are also options.

Trump's thinking of taking emergency funds designated for Texas, Puerto Rico, and California and using it to build his wall? What a chump. He's stealing from those who need it desperately for his own vanity. Shouldn't be surprised, he took foundation money and had a 6 foot painting made of himself.

Come on people, you can't make this shit up.

The Shit Show, Clusterfuck, Poop Fest continues. What a mess.

A bit of a gaff. Trump won't be bothered.
The reality is, there's two realistic ways this ends, and the administration is slowly, reluctantly coming to grips with it.

1) Trump agrees to fund the government at current levels, no wall. The administration attempts to sell existing plans to upgrade and expand border security as "The Wall," perhaps with a non-emergency executive action that may or may not be legal. Most of Trump's base will buy it; they're looking for evidence that Trump is fighting for what they believe in. Some true believers in right-wing media, the Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson types, will not. Perhaps Fox and Friends won't either. What happens at that point is entirely up to the president.

2) Trump, stupidly, decides that he can't afford to offend the true believers and/or his personal pride requires him to stick to his guns. At that point, it is a matter of time, nothing more. Consequences of an extended shutdown will get worse and worse until the Republicans give in to public pressure and vote in government funding at current levels with veto-proof majorities. There is no world where the Democrats come under extended pressure from most Americans to give Trump what he wants, or otherwise "take the blame." Trump permanently ensured that in his first meeting with Pelosi and Schumer.

I am a bit suspicious of media handwringing over federal workers who are "living paycheck to paycheck" and don't know where the next mortgage payment will come from. Federal jobs do pay well; these aren't minimum wage McJobs. Don't these people save any money?

I really am starting to wonder how many politicians get paid by cartels / gangs and how much to put their weight into sustaining the status quo.

TSA pay is crap. Like, it isn't minimum wage, but it is complete shit in most markets.

But, they're essential, so they gotta work with nothing. Or I guess quit and do something else ... right now, many are calling in sick.

The effect on some airports' traffic flow has been immediate and intense. The agency says that nationwide this isn't yet a serious concern, but that statement has just as much credibility as any other from Trump's DHS ... even then, we're talking averages.

If Agent Pat "Pat Down" Smith doesn't report to work at Bumfuck Regional Airport, no harm no foul. If you got a dozen absences at ATL, you got problems.
