No word yet on why. Just submitted the letter to Ryan without warning today.

Some have pointed out that if Gowdy is suspected of ethical violations himself, he would've had to recuse or resign.

The ethics committee is evenly divided, so any recusal would've given Democrats the majority.

Hence...

Gowdy was on 4 committees. The workload was extraneous. Far more than most congress critters.
Yeah but he's well known to consider ethics and oversight to be his most treasured positions.

If we hear nothing more of this, I'll buy into the idea that he's just lightening the load. But I say keep your eyes open...

Gowdy took over for Nunes on this committee just long enough to clear Nunes of ethics violations.
Gowdy is involved in the Flynn case as he received email notifications as did Nunes while they were on Trump's transition team. The both received copies of emails detailing Flynn's contact with the Russians. Gowdy and Nunes are likely going to be getting their own visit from Mueller.

The real reason Trey Gowdy just resigned from a key House committee - Palmer Report

**HA HA GOWDY AND NUNES knew about Flynns transgressions and acted to cover them up WHY? Because they both took money from Russians and that money was stolen and laundered from the bank in Kazakhstan

As chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) used $150,000 in taxpayer dollars to settle with a former aide who alleged he was fired in part because he was not willing to focus his investigative work on Hillary Clinton.

The Post confirmed the confidential settlement reached between Gowdy and the Benghazi panel and Bradley Podliska after it appeared in a list of settlements released Friday by the congressional Office of Compliance. Gowdy is now the chairman of the House Oversight Committee.

Quite the surprise. I have a feeling there is more to this story than meets the eye. My guess is that Chaffetz, Ryan and Gowdy/Nunes are all intertwined.
